There are few dangers in La Jolla anytime, day or night.  Of course, there are dangers at the beaches due to the power of the ocean but there are signs posted to warn of possible problems.  Also, lifeguards have a flag system to warn of designated activity in an area or rip-tides. Lifeguards are the official authority along the beaches and have the power to arrest anyone who refuses to act in a safe manner.  Another warning is that the roads into and out of La Jolla village can become quite congested and parking is oftentimes difficult to find.  Then of course, you should be warned that La Jolla is an expensive place and it is easy to spend too much of the budget.
