This has always been one of our favorite restaurants. The decor is wonderful and very comfortable. The food is always great and so is the service. Plus, the price is always right. They have the best pies here. Also, they have this really neat gift shop with the pie shop.

Not a huge establishment, but it is a chain of fast food that is growing in California. We decided to try it out. It is obviously popular with the locals who come in here to get it to go. The food was good and they had a very good variety of selections. Some of the food was very familiar if your hip with Mexican cuisine.

MARIE CALLENDER'S RESTAURANT & BAKERY: GO FOR THE PIE

by travelgourmet Updated Dec 8, 2010
    Marie Callender's Restaurant

Whenever I go on a road trip or a weekend getaway, I like to find the local cafe or eatery. Marie Callender's Restaurant & Bakery is just such a restaurant that features American cuisine. They also have a great reputation for pies. Not just one or two, but many to choose from and all are delicious. This particular Marie Callender's just happened to be right next door to the hotel we were staying in.

Arriving early to the hotel, we waited by naturally going next door to Marie Callender's for lunch. This is one beloved restaurant, as not only travellers were inside but many locals were having a good old American lunch that seemed to include one of the slices of the famous pies. Waitstaff was friendly and very efficient. Good prices for the food was another benefit. In fact, we were visiting one of our daughters in nearby Palmdale and she requested for us to bring a Marie Callender's French Apple Pie for one of the desserts. Great coincidence that we were having lunch at the same restaurant she ordered a pie for the nights dinner with the entire family.

Favorite Dish: American comfort food is food with great flavor and one that will fill you up. The one dish that I am always feeling full after partaking is a good chicken fried steak. It may not be low in calories or a dish that will keep you lean but does it ever put a big smile on your face. Hey, you don't do this every day, so enjoy. Top it all off with the signature dish of Marie Callender's, Pie. Name your favorite and they just might have it fresh and ready to serve.

I always debate about a favorite pie. Lemon is great anytime, French Apple is a good cold weather pie, and then the seasonal favorites like Pumkin pie or Apple ala mode are always calling, and don't forget the berry pies. Wow! Decisions, decisions. I went for the French Apple as it was raining outside and snow was a possiblity for later in the evening. Marie Callender's Restaurant & Bakery is open from 7am-10:30pm Sunday thru Thursday and 7am-11pm on Friday and Saturdays.

Katz N Jammers: Great 50's Diner

by srambus Written Apr 6, 2008

This is a really popular place with the locals. The portions are good sized, but best of all, the food is Delicious!! The owners are very friendly and the place is decorated in a 50's & 60's theme, but not overdone. Lunch is also fabulous with great burgers and REAL milkshakes and malts. Plus they have a counter to dine at, and also, many different kinds of sodas from the 50's (cherry phospate, etc) Try it! (Im pretty sure they only do breakfast and lunch here, no dinner).

Favorite Dish: My favorite breakfast is their Eggs Benedict, the best I've ever had. The eggs are big and absolutlely perfectly cooked, with an amazing sauce that covers the eggs and a very thick slice of ham. Scrumptious!

    Crazy Otto's Diner: Local Icon

Originally located right next to the railroad tracks off of Old Sierra Highway it was and still is a favorite spot of locals. You get some old fashion cooking here with some pretty interesting decor. Lots to look at in the restaurant. The service is wonderful, friendly and the place is always clean. They even serve low cal meals here too. Lots to choose from their menu. So stop by and check it out!

Favorite Dish: I usually get the ham & cheese omelette or their burgers, which are always yummy and they give you these huge portions. So be hungry!

Original Louis Burgers: Old Fashion Burgers

by Yaqui Written Jul 18, 2004

This is Louis Burgers located on 10th Street West and Ave J just across from the old sheriff station. It is very clean and serves some great food. I had a Hamburger, fries and malt shake from here, which was very tastey. The attendants were very polite. Comfortable seating and plenty of parking. It has a drive thru also. I think you'll like this place.

They have a "Cruise - In" regularly all year long. If your wondering what a cruise in is, its when individuals have taken their love of the American Classic Cars and restored them to their former glory. You will be impressed what you find in those Cruise In's!

Riding On A Wing & A Prayer Bar & Grill: Great Food!

    Aviation history here;-)

Come in, sit down and enjoy the great food and check out all the real cool photographs and see the Pilot Wall with all the signatures. Since the 1950's this has been one of the local hangouts for aviators, alfalfa farmers, and just local residents. It was called "The Old Timers Retreat", for 43 years. Now called, "Riding on a Wing & A Prayer Bar & Grill", and carries on the proud tradition as a roadhouse-cafe-air museum;-)
