Livermore Things to Do

  • Wine tour

Livermore Valley is renowned for their wineries. Not as advertised as Napa or Sonoma they keep the cream of the crop hidden from the general tourist. Since the vally is so spread out a car is definitely required and a few days needed to cover all the wineries, but it is well worth it. there a many boutique wineries that produce only a few hundred...

  • Livermore Wine Tasting

There are many wineries in the Livermore Valley Wine Country. You can find twelve of them just on South Livermore Avenue which curves into Tesla Road. There are five more on Greenville Road that curves into Crane Ridge Road. The Livermore Valley is one of California's oldest wine regions. Robert Livermore planted the first commercial vines in the...

  • Altamont Pass Wind Farm in the Summer

In the summer time the hills near Livermore, California, turn "golden" (more like brown) from lack of rain. Grass fires can occur easily. One can see where they plow firebreaks (dark stripe around the towers in the picture) but also where the fires burned. I assume the wind generator towers were designed to withstand this threat. BTW, Patterson...

  • Altamont Pass Wind Farm in the Spring

The Altamont Pass wind farm is the largest power plant fueled by wind in the world. It stretches north and south along the hills perpendicular to the old Altamont Pass Road and the I-580 interstate highway between Livermore and Tracy. Though the Altamont Pass wind farm still contains the world's largest concentration of wind turbines, it has been...

  • Shadow Cliffs Regional Park

This park is surrounded by gravel Quarries. In fact that's exactly what it used to be. But now it is part of the regional park district. There are many things to do here at the park which include boating, fishing, hiking, sunbathing, volleyball, four-flume watersides, and much, much more. Bring your family, bring your freinds, and have fun.Keep in...

  • Sycamore Grove Regional Park

The Sycamore Grove Regional Park opened in the month of August, 1979. It is 742 acres of majestic hiking/bicycle trails; it offers horseback trails, as well as picnic areas thrughout the park. There are restrooms at either of the two enterances. One fo my favorite things to do, whenever I'm in town, is visitng Sycamore Gorve. It is a big part of my...

  • Downtown Livermore

Downtown Livermore is small enough that it makes a nice walk. There are plenty of shops, restaurants and historical buildings on First Street in the few blocks west of Livermore Avenue. The area has just undergone some construction and is looking very nice now with new gazebos, benches and green areas. Park in the lots behind the buildings on the...

  • Wente Vineyards

The Wente Vineyards Winery was founded by C.H. Wente 1883. Since its establishment it has grown from 48 acres to over 2000 acres of vineyards. The winery still remains in the Wente family. It's located deep within the Livermore Valley, and now apart from being exclusively a winery, it has become a popular tourist attraction, which includes a...

  • Lake Del Valle

Located in the Livermore Valley is the picturesque Lake Del Valle...we love going to this little known park, well hidden in the greens. You can go boating and do a little bit of fishing too. They have clean benches and grills and basic necessities like restrooms and water fountains.

  • Neighborhood Japanese restaurant

I lived in Japan from 1980 - 1982 and this restaurant transports me back there. The decor matches a local family run Japanese theme. The menu rekindles those memories. We have dined here for over 18 years. They have sashimi, odons, sushi, tempuras, tonkatsu, karuge, Kirin, etc. I love the Lunch Combo- miso soup, salad, and choice of two entres. I...

  • Good East Indian Food

Sansar is a cozy, two-room restaurant in downtown Livermore. The lunch buffet is small but tasty. The service is excellent. There is some outdoor dining available. Try the Indian chili with nan.

  • Oakland Airport Fast Food

The Oakland airport is the closest airport to Livermore. When I am there, I like to get a 360 Degree Gourmet Burrito. They are fast and delicious. It is in the old terminal (#1), so you must go through security to get to it. The lime and garlic dressing chicken burrito with black beans is excellent.

  • Classy Chinese Restaurant

Uncle Yu's is a small chain of three very upscale Chinese restaurants. The Livermore site is called Uncle Yu's at the Vineyard. Both the food and the service are excellent. It gets good reviews. I don't drink but the wine list is extensive. There is also a patio dining area. The Singapore Noodles entree is delicious. It has rice noodles, shrimp,...

  • Casual Lunch at a Winery

The Cafe Trio is located at the Stony Ridge Winery. It is only open for lunch. There is a small indoor dining area, which tends to fill up (you may want to make a reservation if you prefer to sit inside). When the weather is cool, you may sit outside on the elevated front porch with a view of grape vines in the foreground and the hills in the...

  • Neighborhood Vietnamese Restaurant

We were staying at the DoubleTree Club Hotel in Livermore, CA, and noticed this small Vietnamese restaurant in a strip mall about a half-a-block away. We found a good review online, so we decided to try it. Sai's 3 turned out to be an excellent find. It is a small family restaurant with delicious food at a good price. It is a clean, friendly place...

  • Eat Middle East Food in North Livermore

Alekos is a new restaurant in the Springtown area of Livermore. In Sep 07 it had been open for ~5 weeks. They have Greek and Mediterranean food. You order at the counter and your food will be ready quickly (5-10 minutes). There was a steady stream of people doing take out, but if you decide to eat in, the service is friendly and good. I have only...

  • Cozy Downtown Japanese Restaurant

Kawa Sushi has been in downtown Livermore for a while (since 1998). It may be taken for granted a little now but it is a very nice place to eat. Kawa Sushi has been voted as the Best Sushi Restaurant by Tri-Valley Herald readers numerous times. Both the food and the service are excellent. Small groups may have their own side room or eat teppan...

  • Strizzi's Great Italian

I've eaten at a number of Strizzi's locations and all provide the same quality of service and food. The pasts is always done to perfection and if you don't like it they will redo it to your specifications.Since all locations are in the proximity of the CA Wine country, CA wines are presented. There is always a featured winery to complement the...

  • Mexican Cuisine

Located just south of the downtown center of Livermore Casa Orozco is a relatively new addition. It has another site in Dublin that has been there for years so it obviously has a good following.I found the food, while prepared well to be a bit tasteless and covered with too much of everything (Guacamole, sour cream, cheeze, etc). My burritto and my...

  • Dine in the Vineyard

Situated at the entrance to the Wente Vineyards Estate Winery and next to a Greg Norman designed 18-hole golf course and 3000 acres of vineyard this is a wonderful destination. In the summer, the Wente concert series brings big name musicians to entertain in the courtyard in between the restaurant and the wine storage facilities. Huey Lewis, Ringo...

  • If You Are Hungry on a Small Budget

The Waikiki Hawaiian BBQ restaurant just opened in downtown Livermore. It has a good location next to the Lemon Grass Restaurant. If you don't have much money and are really hungry, go for one of their plate lunches. They are huge with plenty of meat, macaroni salad, rice and cholesterol. We thought the place might be totally authentic but our...

  • Great Pesto Sauce

Everyone says that Milano's makes the best pizza in Livermore; however, the pesto sandwiches were recommended to me and that's what I have always had since they are delicious and I don't get to Livermore often. Milano's is in a neighborhood strip mall and has plenty of room, along with big-screen TV's. Don't miss this place for lunch. The pesto...

  • Pastas Trattoria Is Now Terra Mia

Terra Mia replaced Pastas Trattoria in Feb 2006. It is located in a strip mall in east Livermore. Don't let the location fool you. It is an excellent authentic Italian restaurant with an extensive wine list. It has both indoor and outdoor dining. You will probably need reservations if you want to have dinner there. However, be prepared to pay the...

  • Good Thai Food

The Lemon Grass Thai Restaurant is next door to the Sansar Indian Restaurant. Both are good and have reasonable prices, so it is always hard to choose. Often we'll have the lunch buffet at Sansar and then dinner at the Lemon Grass. Noy will be there to help you. I think "noy" means small in Thai. Is she really small or am I big? Well, for sure the...

  • Something to Savor

The Wente Vineyards Restaurant is something you won't want to miss; its atmosphere is inviting and its food--exquisite. It's sorrounded by vibrant gardens and flourishing vineyards. Livermore Transportation

  • Avoid I-580 Morning and Evening Rush...

We typically fly into Oakland Airport and rent a car to go to Livermore. To get there, you go south on I-880 to Highway 238, which turns east toward the Castro Valley and merges with I-580 east. When traffic is good, it is about a 45 minute drive (27 miles). However, during the evening or morning rush hours, I-580 can be a mess. It is the main...

Livermore Off The Beaten Path

  • Big White House

This winery started in the owners home, a big white house. The tasting room locate at 6800 Greenville Road is a few miles from the winery which is located in down town Livermore.Like most Livermore wineries, this is small lot using only premium grapes from the area. Unlike many of the larger operations, Big White Hous does not regularly practice...

  • Steven Kent Winery

The Steven Kent winery is "just down the street" from the Wente complex. I've passed it many times and thought it part of Wente, however...(nose goes up a bit) it is considered "a world-class producer of extremely small lots of wine." SO of course I had to stop and check out this blatant marketing. The tasting room is located in a newly built,...

  • Murrieta's Well

This is a small winery but it dates back to old CA. Wente bought the winery in 1990 to make a come back for "old world style" wines. It is only 92 acres but produces some very good wines due to the local soil.Tasting: Wed - sun 11:00 AM - 4:30 PMLocation: 30005 Mines road Livermore
