Joseph's Bi-Rite Market: Get your hiking food here!

by Hopkid Written Aug 12, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Joseph's is the supermarket in the center of Lone Pine. It's small but has everything you would need for your trip up to the Whitney summit or on any other backpack/hiking trail in the area. It has a nice old-timey feel to it and appears to be operated by a single family. We purchased the fixings for turkey and swiss sandwiches here. Also available are various types of energy bars, and just about any other type of food and supply that you'd expect to find in a local supermarket.

What to buy: Food and sundries needed for hiking/backpacking trip.

What to pay: Typical costs for supermarket items.

Lone Pine Sporting Goods: Hiking/Backpacking Supplies

by Hopkid Written Aug 12, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Small but well-stocked, Lone Pine Sporting Goods has just about anything you would need for a hiking/backpacking trip. Hiking poles, hats, fleece, camping equipment, fishing gear, you name it. It also has a wide range of t-shirts that commemorate the experience of climbing/hiking up Mt. Whitney. If you can't find what you're looking for here, you can try Slater's Sporting Goods to the north about a block. Just go north until you see the big trout sign. You can't miss it!

What to buy: Gear for your hiking/backpacking trip; t-shirt that states you made it to the summit!

    What to pay: Varies

Elevation Sierra Adventure: They may what you need for your outdoor fun

This is a small outdoor equipment store. They have a wide variety for the size store. Clothing, climbing and camping equipment as well as packs and maps. The place was very cluttered and unorganized. Staff were friendly but seemed to be just helping a friend and really did know where much was. There was a nice light weight jacket I wanted but they couldn't find my size although they kept saying its here somewhere.

I was able to pick up some tent stakes to replace what was destroyed on my trip in Death Valley. So they served my needs overall.

    Hour of operation:

    Monday 9:00 am – 6:30 pm
    Tuesday 9:00 am – 6:30 pm
    Wednesday 9:00 am – 6:30 pm
    Thursday 9:00 am – 6:30 pm
    Friday 9:00 am – 7:00 pm
    Saturday 9:00 am – 7:00 pm
    Sunday 9:00 am – 6:30 pm

What to buy: Outdoor adventure equipment

What to pay: Some deals can be found. Clothing was much higher than normal

Joseph's Bi-Rite Market: Great location for food supplies

This market is conveniently located in the center of town. They have a good selection of food and great for supplies when camping. Can be a little expensive. They have bathrooms for paying customers. Nothing too special but very convenient.
