Grand Prix, Long Beach
The annual Grand Prix comes to Long Beach in early spring. This event is always a major one, the biggest draw of visitors to the city during the year. Real race fans gladly spend about $100 for tickets inside the prix buty here's a secret for those who want to have a peak at the fast cars around the track. One can have a good view at a particular stage of the track near the intersection of Pine and Ocean Ave, where the new Pike entertainment/shopping center is located. There were a good number of people who were in this area that enjoyed a FREE view of the race action. I tell you, what's better than FREE!! :-) I was able to get this shot of the track right off the intersection.
Attend the Long Beach Gran Prix.
One of the few 'World Class' events staged in Southern California. Lots of people, celebrities, beer drinking and sun. Just a great time. We live a couple of miles from the course and can hear the cars during time trials.
No one drives all weekend. We take all the car keys and hide them and ride the bus to the races for three days. We have a big flop over during the weekend and have anywhere from 6-20 people staying at our house. Puts a real strain on the plumbing!
Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach
If you are in the Long Beach area in early April you may want to attend the Long Beach Grand Prix. It is fast and loud and a must do activity for race fans. If you go, be sure to take ear plugs because the continuous, loud engine noise can be unpleasant.
This map shows the exact route for the race. The race takes place on city streets while the spectators line the route or sit in bleachers. This is a huge event for the city of Long Beach and visitors come in large numbers to attend.
