Downtown: The Standard Hotel: Great Experience

The rooftop bar at the Standard Hotel in downtown LA is a great experience, especially for those visiting or new to LA. This rooftop bar also boasts a rooftop pool with an infinity edge and waterbed cabanas where you can lie down and relax by the pool with your drink. From what I hear, the pool is for registered guests only but I occasionally hear rumors otherwise.
The have a DJ nightly spinning tunes so you can dance on the dance floor. Prices are normal for LA ~$12 per drink. There is a $20 cover charge to get in, except for Monday nights when it's free.

Dress Code: Men are not allowed to wear sandals/flip flops or sneakers.

    The Standard, Downtown: Rooftop Bar

This was a very short trip here, this place looked interesting but was way upscale and we couldnt even get to the top for the rooftop bar, our waitress from the Point told us to check it out but she didnt say there was going to be a waiting period to get in, the lower level seemed to be happening but once again, this spot was more upscale to our liking. So, we carried on to find or final spot which is why I put in the number one position.

Dress Code: There didnt seem to be a dress code here but it did look upscale, but we wasnt there long to people watch, lol!

Downtown: Hangin' at The Downtown Standard

    Rooftop view

The Downtown Standard is the younger cousin of "The Standard", located on the hyper-sexual Sunset Strip. In the beginning, it was a beguiling alternative to the popular scene, but as Downtown rebounded and word spread, the Downtown Standard has become it's own lightning rod.

Set high among the skyline, this bar is a stunning venue. As such, it's often closed off for filming. But, when you can plunge in, you'll find yourself ensconced among the Downtown skyline with artistically trimmed hedges, pod-like waterbed chaise lounges, and a small dancefloor. Drinks are pricey, but there is no cover, so consider this a worthwhile trade off.

I recommend weeknights to beat the crowds.

Dress Code: I would dress to impress; though don't go overboard cuz you'll look like a suburban sorority sister trying a bit too hard to get in the door.

The Standard Downtown: The Standard Downtown-- great views and vibe!

There are two Standard Hotels in Los Angeles. The one on Sunset Blvd. is always popular, but it's the Standard Downtown that is really hip and happening these days. The Standard Downtown has an amazing rooftop bar that is totally worth the drive from the Westside.

The rooftop bar has amazing views of all the downtown skyscrapers at night. There are a number of places to lounge here. There are cozy sofas next to a fireplace, chairs around a long, rectangular pool, an enclosed area near the bar and futuristic plastic cabana sorts of things that are very popular and private. This is a very trendy scene. Get here early and look the part!

On weekends there is a $20 cover.

On some weekdays (call the hotel for information), the Standard projects movies onto the side of a skyscraper next door. This is a great way to catch a film alfresco!

Dress Code: You will want to dress up. No jeans.
