Pacific Coast Highway - PCH, Los Angeles
We took a trip up the coast of California, Big Sur and Monterey, then over to Yosemite, all the way up to Yellowstone. Then down the desert to Joshua Tree. We drove the coolest 1979 VW camper! Every where we went people of all ages raved about out "Ride"!
These guys have refitted some '70's VW campers and are renting them. It is so cool to feel like a local and not have to drive a typical rental car!
Added bonus is that there is huge savings on accommodations. Where you stay is up to you and not where you happen to be able to afford a bed.
Check it out. They are called Vintage Surfari Wagons in Mission Viejo, but they will bring a bus to you at the airport and meet you if you want.
You gotta do this at least once.

Along PCH watch for a small parking lot at Winding way. To do this waterfall hike you must park in that lot as there is NO street parking allowed closer to the trailhead. Best bet is to take bikes with you for that 1st mile, as it is through a residentail neighborhood with not much to see and it really adds too much time on foot before the hike and after.
In the rainy season this is a beautiful falls, but there is a strong sulpher smell which may be a bit off putting. To me, it's worth it!
Well worth the drive up PCH (Hwy 1) to Malibu is the beach at Point Dume; or more precisely, the hidden beaches to the East of the public beach and cliff wall that are accessible at lower tides. Beautiful caves, occasional nude sunbathing, tidal pools brimming with sea life, diverse wildlife on land, and dramatic cliffs await you. No wonder all the celebs live atop the cliffs directly above you!
Pacific Coast Highway (101).
Take a drive up PCH and you'll be amazed at some of the views of the rugged California coastline.
