The Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden is located in Arcadia, near the Santa Anita Race Track. It is only a few miles east of the Huntington.
Aside from trees and plants from different parts of the world, the Arboretum also has several interesting structures. It has a Queen Anne Cottage (see picture) which is said to be the white house in "Fantasy Island" (The plane! The plane!). The Santa Anita Train Depot was also relocated there.
There's a tram that goes around the park. Admission is free every third Tuesday of the month. There are no trams on that day, however.
I've dove Anacapa on several boats and the Specter is by far the best.
Sleep aboard the night before and have a drink at the Greek restaurant.
After the dives, jump into the onboard Jacuzzi. It was $90.00 for 4 dives plus food and
air fills. Unbelievable diving, especially with curious seals. The boat trip alone with the
spectacular views was worth it. The boat leaves from Ventura Harbor just over an hour drive from Los Angeles. I recommend driving there via PCH (Hwy 1) along the coast. The road
will take you to the 101 freeway North and follow the signs to the Marina.
