Will Rogers State Park is a nice weekend destination in the hills between Brentwood and Pacific Palisades. There is a multitude of activities available: hiking-trails, horse-back riding and riding-lessons, mountain biking, Will Rogers polo club, and then of course there is the Will Rogers Ranch. The ranch is considered one of California's historic landmarks, and tours are offered Tuesday - Sunday at 11 am, 1 pm and 2 pm.
We missed the Ranch-tour, but used our visit to hike up the 3-mile loop to Inspiration Point, which gives a broad view over greater Los Angeles all the way from Santa Monica to downtown L.A. - on clear days you can make out Catalina Island on the horizon. It's not a strenuous hike, but rather a pleasant walk.
Not so good: Parking is fairly expensive (about $ 7.--), considering that there are numerous trails in the immediate area (Santa Monica Mountains) that are free.
Arroyo Sequit trails in Malibu
Accessed from Mulholland Highway, Arroyo Sequit Park is one of the most beautiful destinations in the western Santa Monica Mountains. Park features include a perennial stream, a loop trail, rocks, and meadows that are blanketed with wildflowers in the spring. The Arroyo Sequit contains some of the best aquatic ecological resources of all the coastal streams in the Santa Monica Mountains.

A lovely place to go horseriding, hiking, play golf, have a picnic or play touch rugby. You could also just go peep into the late Will Rogers house, that's if you missed the tour.
