Law Enforcement Memorial

There is a nice Law Enforcement Memorial located on the grounds of the Madera County Courthouse. I think the shiny black stone is very pretty.

Veterans Memorial

There is a nice Veterans Memorial located on the grounds of the Madera County Courthouse. It always makes me happy to see the nation's veterans getting proper respect.

Madera County Library

Across the street from the Old Madera County Courthouse is the Madera County Library. The library was established in 1901 with only 1 book, a book on lumber. The library was moved from place to place until the current building was built in 1917. the building was built using only county funds to eliminate any outside demands in exchange for the funding.

Madera has a population of just under 45,000 and is the county seat of Madera County. The old county courthouse was built in 1900 and is of architectural and historical interest. The courthouse is on the National Register of Historic Places. I think it is pretty too. It has a nice park around the building. The new courthouse is across the street and the old courthouse has been turned into a museum.

Madera, like many counties, built a new courthouse in recent decades but, unlike some, it kept its old turnof-the century courthouse. This handsome stone building was turned into a museum and is right next to Hwy 99, on the edge of downtown. Newer court facilities are across the street.
