    Wildlife - Raccoons

by Roadquill Written Dec 13, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: The raccoons found in Malibu a sturdy, big and tough survivors. They have to hold their own against cougars and packs of coyotes. They will take off when able, but are very capable of defending themselves. This big guy was cruising near Malibu Canyon. They are not domesticated and you should not try and feed them or approach them.

    Malibu Pier Tower

Favorite thing: These buildings at the front of the pier I found interesting because they framed the entrance but didn't really match eachother. Still I knew they had some neat history. They were built in 1932 along with the wall that use to extend all the way to the Adamson House. They were used as a storage house and are decorated with the vintage Malibu tiles.

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: My Malibu Tips are centered on hiking in Point Mugu State Park. Point Mugu is in Malibu, about 15 miles south of Oxnard. It is along the coast and offers some excellent views of teh ocean when hiking up the mountains to the main trails.

Fondest memory: The beautiful views of the islands on the California Coast.

    Pepperdine University

    by mht_in_la Updated Nov 29, 2004
    Pepperdine Univ

Favorite thing: Pepperdine Univ is located right on PCH in Malibu. You can't miss it when you drive by. I recognized the name Pepperdine from NCAA. I tried to take a look at the campus but the security was tight. The whole Univ is like a gated community.

Santa Monica Beach looking towards Malibu

Favorite thing: If you plan your time wisely you can see Malibu and other cities close by in the same day. Venice, Santa Monica and Malibu are all within a 30 minute drive of each other. Beverly Hills, Hollywood and Westwood are within 45 minutes.
It all depends on where you're coming from, and what you want to see.

    Up the trail

Favorite thing: The beach is 15 miles south of Oxnard on Highway One.

    9000 W. Pacific Coast Highway,
    Malibu, CA 90265

There is a campground along the road, stop in there and get a map of the hiking trails. Lots of great day hikes.

    A little History

by blaird Written Mar 3, 2003

    Always a romantic

Favorite thing: Mugu beach is believed to be the site where Juan Cabrillo landed on October 10, 1542. Most of its early history centers around ranching and farming.

Point Mugu (Ma-Goo) is named after the Chumash Indians word for beach.

by AngelaScura Written Aug 25, 2002

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: get carryout Ganja sushi and Vegas rolls from ZOOMA SUSHI (off of PCH at Point Dume), take it to Westward Beach, and eat it while watching the sunset. This is the singlemost perfect way to spend an evening in Malibu.

Fondest memory: Celeb-hunting at Cross Creek (one of the very few shopping centers in town)...getting practically run down by Stephen Spielberg in the parking lot of Ralph's Supermarket...getting thrown in the water at Leo Carrillo Beach

NOTICE that there are NO shells on the beach in the pic...that's one really odd thing about Malibu. No shells. Go figure.

    Visit the beach. Actually,...

by jimmyz Written Aug 24, 2002

Favorite thing: Visit the beach. Actually, Malibu is 27 miles long and less than 1/2 mile wide -- it's virtually all beach! Some of the best beaches in the world are here for sunning and surfing -- Zuma, Surfrider, Westward, Latigo and many others. Don't miss it and if its late February or early March you can watch the whales as they migrate north.

Fondest memory: Again, the beach and the mountain trails where I ride my mountain bike. Nature is in its full glory in Malibu and the city has worked hard to keep it that way. For being so close to Los Angeles, it's almost rural in setting. Lots of mountain parks and trails for hikers, bikers, horseback riding or whatever.

    bruingirl's General Tip

by bruingirl Written Aug 24, 2002

    0.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Fondest memory: Just walking along the beach...somewhere near Zuma. It was late afternoon and the sun was getting close to setting. Just breathing in the clean, salty air while the sea gulls were running along the wet sand next to me. There's really nothing more relaxing than that...
