Located right on the water, Duke's is part of a chain that originates from Hawaii. We stopped her for a drink and an appetizer. It was at that perfect time of day when the sun's just starting to get golden.

Favorite Dish: I had a wonderful fruity rum concoction reminiscent of the kind of drinks I enjoyed while in the Caribbean, called The Tropical Itch. It was lovely. We also ordered some fried calamari. They were, in my opinion, too heavily breaded. Maybe this is how they eat 'em in Hawaii.

Geoffrey's: At the beach, make reservations first!

Plan on valet parking because there is no other parking available. The food is good, the ambience is wonderful, views of the ocean and plush landscaping makes for a great place to dine at. We weren't too hungry, just wanted to have a glass of wine but the bar is minimalist and not as comfortable as the dining area so we chose to have a little something. I ordered the lump crab cakes with sweet corn sauce. It was fantastic. LOTS of crab! My boyfriend ordered the Seared Ahi Nicoise Greek salad. Also very tasty.

It is not easy to get to. Plan on giving yourself plenty of time to get there. PCH can be quite busy, lots of traffic.

Paradise Cove Beach Cafe: Cafe in paradise

    The cafe

A wonderful restaurant on the beach in Paradise Cove - there are tables in door and out and the restaurant is in a wonderful setting - the cove and pier are sat under high cliffs and sitting outside on a warm January day was unbelievable knowing back in England there was heavy snow.
The staff were all young and efficient - happy to have their photos taken and a very fast service once the order had gone in.
Clean restrooms and very good general standards.
The website is the best restaurant website I have ever seen.

Favorite Dish: The menu is extensive and full of favourites. I had a turkey sandwich with fries and cola - friends had jacket potatoes which were the largest I had ever seen.
Good quality and very generous portion sizes.

Gladstones: Known for their seafood and Bloody Mary's

Gladstones is known for their shell fish and their Bloody Mary's. Rob had Sashimi and he said it was excellent. Since I am not into seafood I wasnt sure what to order. Most of the menu was seafood. Even though it was early in the morning I had a couple of martinis and an order of Huevos Rancheros. My martinis were excellent, the Huevos Rancheros were so so.
Rob also had a seafood platter that included shrimp, salmon and I dont know what else. He thought it was very very good. Koa had the kids cheese burger but ended up eatting Robs Sashimi and Shrimp.
Overall this place was very good. It felt cozy and there were alot of pictures of Malibu on the walls. I will include some of those pictures in a travelogue here on my Malibu pages so you can see them.
The service was great even concidering the waiters and waitresses were hung over from New Years Eve the day before.
By 11am this place was getting crowded but this place is quite large and there is tons of room outside too.
If you like seafood, this place might be the place for you.

Favorite Dish: I dont drink Bloody Mary's but Rob does. He wasnt too impressed with them but the people in the table next to us were raving about them. I guess you will have to be the judge of the famous Bloody Mary's.

Duke's: MALIBU: Nobody Does it Better then the Duke!

by RawdgerDodger Updated Jul 21, 2006
    Dukes!

Duke's is famous for American type food like Cheeseburgers. They also serve good fish and seafood and have a nice selection of salads and are famous for their Bloody Marys. As you are munching away on your American meal, you are treated to a nice view of the Pacific ocean which is right outside your window. All around are pictures of the famous Duke and his super huge longboard that he used to ride in the 1950's. Not only do you get to eat good food but are treated to a historical museumish experience by all the pictures and surf boards hanging aroound on the walls and ceilings.

Gladstones Restaurant: Seafood by the Sea in MALIBU!

by RawdgerDodger Updated Jul 21, 2006
    Gladstones Restaurant on the Beach

My favorite dish is actually the soup. It is a nice New England clam chowder in a San Francisco style sourdough bread bowl. It is yummy! There are peanuts in a huge oak barrel to keep you company as you wait for your seat. This place is great at Sunset. The fish is good too. As for taking a date, it is the perfect place. Try some of the drinks too. They are good although they are a bit expensive but worth it. If you have to wait a bit, go for a walk on the beach. The surfers nearby also provide nice scenery to look at.

This place has been around Malibu for a while. Its gone through a few owners in the last couple of years but the food remains the same... good good good. The service is great. They open early for breakfast and cater to the surfers in the area. They serve lunch and dinner and the kitchen closes around 10pm. There are pool tables and a cozy bar. Happy Hour is from 4pm-7pm Mon-Friday.
    Theres also live music.
    Music:
    · Alternative Rock
    · Country
    · Folk & Bluegrass
    · Funk, Soul & R&B
    · Hard Rock & Heavy Metal
    · Punk
    · Hip-Hop & Rap
    · Rock & Pop
Its a great place to just hang out, the atmosphere is casual and occasionally you might see a someone famous. I have seen Adam Sandler on more than one occassion and Lindsey Wagner, also Jim Carey.
