Malibu Beach Things to Do

  • Malibu Sport Fishing Pier

We hit the Malibu Sport Fishing Pier just as the sun was setting. It was a lovely time of the day to check it out. It wasn't too crowded and it provided us with a prime spot for a colorful sunset.Check out the website. Lots of things to do!

  • Malibu Pier

The pier is touted as being world famous and I suppose it is but, then again, it's just one of many along this stretch of coast; a fact that surprised me because pretty much all the piers in Australia of note have long since disappeared so it was a surprise to see so many. That fishing is hugely popular here was fairly obvious when I saw all the...

  • Visiting a legend

This place has legend status for someone like me; growing up in a backwater of Newcastle in Australia. On the rare occasions when we saw surf movies Malibu always got a mention so it is like one of the holy grails of surfing. Obviously, not many VTers share my view of this iconic location that claims to be the first "World Surfing Reserve"...

Malibu Beach Restaurants

  • Enjoy the Water View

Located right on the water, Duke's is part of a chain that originates from Hawaii. We stopped her for a drink and an appetizer. It was at that perfect time of day when the sun's just starting to get golden. I had a wonderful fruity rum concoction reminiscent of the kind of drinks I enjoyed while in the Caribbean, called The Tropical Itch. It was...

  • At the beach, make reservations first!

Plan on valet parking because there is no other parking available. The food is good, the ambience is wonderful, views of the ocean and plush landscaping makes for a great place to dine at. We weren't too hungry, just wanted to have a glass of wine but the bar is minimalist and not as comfortable as the dining area so we chose to have a little...

  • Cafe in paradise

A wonderful restaurant on the beach in Paradise Cove - there are tables in door and out and the restaurant is in a wonderful setting - the cove and pier are sat under high cliffs and sitting outside on a warm January day was unbelievable knowing back in England there was heavy snow. The staff were all young and efficient - happy to have their photos...

Gladstones is known for their shell fish and their Bloody Mary's. Rob had Sashimi and he said it was excellent. Since I am not into seafood I wasnt sure what to order. Most of the menu was seafood. Even though it was early in the morning I had a couple of martinis and an order of Huevos Rancheros. My martinis were excellent, the Huevos Rancheros...

Duke's is famous for American type food like Cheeseburgers. They also serve good fish and seafood and have a nice selection of salads and are famous for their Bloody Marys. As you are munching away on your American meal, you are treated to a nice view of the Pacific ocean which is right outside your window. All around are pictures of the famous...

  • Seafood by the Sea in MALIBU!

My favorite dish is actually the soup. It is a nice New England clam chowder in a San Francisco style sourdough bread bowl. It is yummy! There are peanuts in a huge oak barrel to keep you company as you wait for your seat. This place is great at Sunset. The fish is good too. As for taking a date, it is the perfect place. Try some of the drinks too....

So we asked the valet at Duke's if Malibu had a downtown. He sent us to the Malibu Country Mart which is a series of strip malls. Sure, they're high end strip malls, but strip malls nonetheless. Not that we were looking to shop but most of the stores were closed anyway.

We didn't see any but then again we didn't spend a lot of time in this park. Nor did we veer off the walking trails.

But hey, looks like someone was so frightened that they ran off an left their glasses case!

There's a park behind the Cross Creek Road shopping area. There's not much to it except for some seating areas where some surfers were smoking a doobie, and a playground where some guy was taking his kids to. But... they have some statues. And well... I just can't resist the photo ops!

And since we're talking statues, there's a fun clown/waiter statue/fountain inside the shopping area. He's kinda cute too, isn't he?

  • The do's and don't of Malibu

Things you can't do - drink alcohol (unless at an approved organized do), smoke, bathe naked, take your dog or park for free.Doing research I came across this interesting bit of history:"The Chumash lived along the coast from Malibu to San Luis Obispo. • Malibu Sunrise

My favorite thing about Malibu beach is watching the sunrise. It is nice just to be able to get up early in the morning and paddle out on the waves. Anywhere else in the world, I just want to sleep in. In early September, the sun rises at approximately 6:30 AM. My fondest memory of Malibu Beach is wrestling on the shore with my cousins during a...
