The Austria Hof has a restaurant which makes a stab at fine dining. I wasn't in the mood for fine dining, but was too tired to walk or drive anywhere else, so I ventured downstairs to give it a try. Service is friendly here and the bar is a popular spot, probably even more so during ski season.
The lobster rolls were delicious. For some reason, I decided to try roast duck, which is definitely not the specialty of this German themed restaurant. Anything with sauerkraut would have been a better choice I suppose, if you're into that. But the duck was pretty disappointing. The steaks didn't look all that appealing either.
Schat's is an institution in the Inyo Valley city of Bishop, a few miles south of Mammoth Lakes. Not long ago they opened a branch in Mammoth Lakes and now skiers, mountain bikers, and other visitors to Mammoth can sample some of the wonderful baked goods that they produce on a daily basis. Breads, pastries, pound cakes, and cookies are all featured. The Mammoth branch also has a sandwich counter in the bake where you can order lunch or get take out to take with you on your hike or to pull out when you're riding the ski lift. We got the cookies and a raisin pound cake that were very good!
Favorite Dish: Anything here appears to be good!
Set in what appears to be an old house (but I don't think it is), The Stove is a popular eatery with a menu befitting of a local diner/greasy spoon. We had dinner and breakfast here during our stay in Mammonth. For dinner Rita had their fried chicken while I had the lasagna. The chicken was fried to a non-greasy crispness with a hint of seasoning. We both rated it very tasty. The lasgna, on the other hand, was just OK. The positive was that it could easily feed a family of four the serving was so big! The breakfast menu had the usual suspects. However seeing as The Stove is well-known for their fresh-baked pies, I ordered a piece of peach pie for breakfast. It was just as a fresh peach pie should taste! It was wonderful!
Be forewarned that The Stove is popular and if you go during prime eating time you may experience a wait.
Favorite Dish: Fresh peach pie...only order it when peaches are in season, typically during the summer.
The restaurant is a decent size alittle dark, theres pool table and some video games for the kids. We came in here to see the UCLA game and they had a few TV's.
The pizza was so so. The service sucked. I found the guy taking our order, behind the register pretty rude. They are definately not big on customer service. We got two medium pizzas for about 24dollars. Alittle more than what you want to spend on pizza.
I came in here not knowing what to expect. I have seen this place pretty crowded but on this particular day it was dead. the food was soso, alittle pricey but then again you are in Mammoth, everything here is pricey.
Favorite Dish: I had some appetizers but mostly i had drinks. they are opened from 2pm to 2 am Mon-Thurs. and 11am to 2am Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
From what i hear the place is do to close soon, too bad.
This was a great place for breakfast. There was alot of people but the service was great and the food was too. We waited for about 15 to 20 minutes to get in but as soon as we sat down the service was fast.
I had a Spinach and cheese omelet, hash browns and toast. Rob had the pork chop and eggs with home fries and a biscuit, Danny and Estela both had that Denver omelet with has browns and muffins. It was all good!
The restaurant is decorated in the counrty style which makes you feel very cozy as if you were in your own kitchen.
This pizza parlor serves up pizza and pasta. They can get rather busy so make sure all your items are present before you leave with your take out order.
Favorite Dish: Their garlic bread, lasagna and meat lovers pizza are passable.
Most of the condos that you can rent in Mammoth have a full kitchen and many places have BBQs....why not take advantage of it??? There's nothing better than grillin some corn on the cob and salmon, serving it all up with some garlic mashed potatoes. Of course, sausages are always a good way to start the evening.... :) It's a great way to save money for at least one evening! :) We usually end up spending about $20/person including all the booze! :)
A lot of people consider it the best menu in Mammoth. It's fine dining Italian, no pizza, but wonderful recipes and great specials. Great apps and homemade deserts. No liquor but an award winning wine list.
Favorite Dish: Veal Scalopini or Chicken Marsal or Spicy Sausage Penne
One of the best places in town for breakfast. That's why there's always a line! Cute little place that looks like it could have been someone's house at one point and time.
Favorite Dish: Eggs and pancakes and biscuits and gravy. I LOVE breakfast and they have everything here! Try one of their omelettes or waffles!
Blondie's has the best breakfast in Mammoth. They have been around since 1985. We have been camping in Mammoth for years and it has always been a family tradition to eat at least on meal at Blondie's. They have excellent waffles and pancakes, but their omlettes & scrambles are pretty tasty too. Check out the Carbo Loader on the menu, it's all you can eat pancakes or french toast and potatoes! Blondie's can get packed on weekends and usually then you can expect a wait. Blondie's staff is very friendly & accomodating. They serve lunch too, but it sure is nothing like breakfast.
Favorite Dish: My favorite dish is actually one of their Mexican dishes, it's Machaca. It's shredded beef with eggs and cheddar cheese, rolled up in a tortilla. For being a non-mexican restaurant, it is very good.
Its likes a sports bar with big screens and games for the kids to play. The prices are very reasonable and its one of the few places you don't have to wait a long time on the weekends.
Favorite Dish: Chicken Enchilada Plate or the Grumpy Burger
Alpine style food. Everything is made from scratch using fresh ingredients. Excellent wine list, featuring quality California vineyards. Great deserts made my the chef/owner
Favorite Dish: Venison - raised on the restaurant's own farm
This place is always voted 'Best seafood restaurant in Mammoth Lakes' - and with good reason! The Ocean Harvest is wonderfully cosy and comfortable restaurant in the centre of town. The service is friendly and relaxed. If you like fish then you are sure to love this plaice (!), and even if you are not that keen, the seafood is so perfectly cooked and presented that you may find yourself won over. You might also be advised to try the Mud-Pie, but beware - one of these is more than enough for four!
Favorite Dish: Any seafood!
Owned and opened by Erick Schat, there is another one in the city of Bishop, just 40 minutes south of Mammoth!
Favorite Dish: They bake the most amazing croissants, breads, rolls, etc...! The minute you walk into the bakery, you will be inundated with the heavenly smell of freshly baked goods!! They also have a restaurant where you can sit down and enjoy anything from a 'The Mammoth' omelette to a chorizo and eggs!
