Pacific Fine Arts Festivals organizes a series of arts and crafts fairs/shows throughout northern California including one in Mammoth Lakes each summer. This year the Mammoth Lakes Fine Arts Festival was held August 4, 5, and 6th adjacent to Kittredge Sports at 3218 Main Street. We were fortunate enough to be in town this weekend and caught the first day of the festival. Approximately 40 artisans were on hand to exhibit their wares including paintings, ceramics, handmade jewelery, photos, and turned wood bowls. Of course what is good is based on personal opinion. I think there would be something here to suit anyone's interest. Certainly it's worth 15 minutes of browsing.
What to buy: Paintings, ceramic ware, handmade jewelery, etc.
What to pay: Varies
For that shopping traveler, the Mammoth Luxury Outlets provides a scaled-down shopping in the alpine setting of this Sierra town. There are only a few stores here but some are heavy hitters such as Coach, G.H. Bass, and Polo Ralph Lauren. We did some early Christmas shopping at Coach and the staff were very friendly and helpful. A nice way to break up the outdoor activities that you'll likely be taking part in and an easy way to appease the shopper in your group. If you simply can't stand shopping, head over to Schat's Bakery next door and have a coffee and a croissant while the shoppers do their thing. ; )
What to buy: Leather goods, clothes, books, toys
What to pay: Varies...but you'll pay outlet prices for it!
