The Town of Mammoth Lakes has established a series of pathways for bicycles, runners and walkers that can take you from the golf courses and horse riding areas on the SE side of town, through town and then on to Twin Lakes and the Tamarack Lodge.
You can find a place to sled almost anywhere in mammoth. Just go outside, find a hill and start making your sled path down. Just make sure to avoid the trees. If that seems like too much work for you, you should drive along Minaret Rd (the main road to Mammoth Mountain Main ski lodge) and a few minutes out of town you'll see a place called SLEDZ on the right that has a rope tow up a groomed hill and then inner tubes for sledding down. It's about $25 per person per hour.
HIking at Convict Lake -- Nice views with varied terrain. There is a trail around the lake, but about half way around there is another trail that leads into the mountains.
We followed the trail into the mountains and got some great views of the lake and area below us.
Equipment: General hiking gear.
