Agnew Meadows is within the day-use Red Meadows/Devils Postpile fee area. While there are few attractions at the meadow itself, it is one of the best trailheads in the Sierra Nevada. Past the Minaret Summit fee area, the narrow road begins to descend through forest with views of Mt. Ritter and Banner Peak, eventually reaching the bottom of the valley of the Middle Fork San Joaquin River, where a small unpaved road leads to Agnew Meadows, site of a campground and a trailhead. The meadows themselves are not backed by splendid granite peaks; from the grassy meadow, you can see the Two Teats rising above, and little else except numerous mosquitoes.
Agnew Meadows has two trailheads: One for the High Trail/PCT, one for the River Trail/Shadow Lake Trail. These two trails lead into perhaps some of the most splendidly beautiful high country in America.
