The notorious LAX airport is just about 3 miles up the road from Manhattan Beach.

    Very Close to the Airport

  • Manhattan Beach is conveniently close to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). It's only about 3 miles south, straight down Hwy 1/Sepulveda Blvd, which goes directly from the aiport through town. The drive is short, direct, and easy.

  • Watch Out For The Bikes! - Manhattan Beach
    Watch Out For The Bikes!
    by lmkluque
Californians are known to be health conscious and none more so than those who live near a beach! Many reasons for that I'm sure. Just as many ways to stay healthy too, like riding a bike.

So many people in Manhattan Beach ride bikes that there is a lane especially for them! I thought it was just a sidewalk until I nearly got run over. It was after that that I saw the sign designating the space to bicycles. Except for the hilly landscape, I'd say that riding a bike around town was the best way to go.

  • I was able to find a metered parking spot when I stopped by for lunch, be sure to bring change with you. I think there was also a parking lot but I spotted a street space before I found the lot. Most of the parking in the shopping/restaurant district is metered and limited to 2 hours.

I also noticed that addresses don't run like they do in Chicago, where 1500 is across the street from 1501. I missed Houston's the 1st time I drove by because the address was 1550 and across the street was 2171. So I think you can only go by the numbers on the odd or even side. It's helpful to have directions from Mapquest or at the very least the nearest cross street.

    Driving is Most Convenient

Getting to Manhattan Beach by car is the most convenient mode of travel in my opinion. Your own car, a rented car or even a hired Limo.

  • Just minutes from the Los Angeles International airport. A cab ride in to Manhattan Beach from the airport is around $20-$25 depending on where you're going.

Driving in from anywhere else, get to the 405 and exit either Rosecrans or Inglewood.

If taking Rosecrans, take it going west and then south on Highland to get to the pier.

If taking Inglewood, head south on Inglewood and then west on Manhattan Beach Blvd. Take that all the way to the end and you'll hit the pier.
Manhattan Beach is essentially L.A. so everyone pretty much drive and get around in their own car. If you're bar hopping around the pier, then your best bet is to catch a cab for 2 reasons. 1 - You don't have to worry about drinking and driving. 2 - The closer you get to the beach, the harder it is to find parking.

  • If you are flying into LAX, MB is just a ten minute cab ride from the airport, so it is a perfect day trip.
Once in town, you can walk or take a cab if needed (or lazy).

  • From LAX, you just take a cab. It's about 5 miles south of the airport.
Walking around on the strand is a great way to get around. You can also roller-blade or ride a bike.

  • On-street and public parking is limited in Manhattan Beach, especially in the summer months, and even more so on holiday weekends. There are a few metered, public lots around downtown MB, as well as an underground parking structure smack-dab in the middle of downtown (under the Shade Hotel and the MetLox shopping center). If you are lucky enough to find a parking spot, be sure to feed your meter, adhere to the time limits (most meters are 2 hours max), and curb your wheels if you park on a hill. The parking attendants in MB are very good at their jobs and generously hand out parking tickets.
