I have had nothing but great meals at this place.
Located at the corner of Marine and Highland in the heart of Manhattan Beach, Corkscrew offers a decent breakfast menu, light lunch, and tapas-style dinner.
Favorite Dish: ~Breakfast; the wrap is pretty healthy and guilt-free with a whole wheat wrap, brown rice, turkey, and a side of fruit.
~Lunch; awesome sandwiches...am partial to the Philly Cheesesteak.
~Dinner; by far my favorite meal time here....features small bites menu of select cheeses, lamb lollipops, caprese salad.
Shark's Cove is another place located along Manhattan Beach boulevard in the heart of downtown Manhattan Beach. It's another restaurant that turns into a bar at night as well.
There are a bunch of large booths, some tables, and some higher tables in the front. One of the drawbacks is that there's no outside seating. It's essentially a sports bar, with many TVs inside. It gets pretty loud inside whenever there's a popular game on.
My friend and I wanted to chat but we had to move as it was really loud in the main part of the small restaurant. If you're looking for a quieter, laid back place, but you still want something in this part of town, I'd try going elsewhere. Maybe Hennessey's.
The service was a little slow, even though we were there on an off night, or maybe because we were there on an off night.
Favorite Dish: I had the Manhattan Beach surf salad, with Cajun salmon. This was actually quite good; I wasn't expecting much since Shark's Cove is a sports bar. The salmon had a nice flavor, and it came with a good Dijon dressing. I'd order it again.
Owned by the Los Angeles player Luke Walton Joey's Smoking BBQ has the meatiest and tastiest ribs in the South Bay. If you need convincing that it's THAT good just drive by their establishment during lunch hour; you will see that the place is packed, and remember that Manhattan Beach is full of health conscious people who normally wouldn't touch ribs!
Their outlet in Manhattan Beach is located at the Manhattan Beach Village Mall and it doesn't have a big seating place, so if you're with a big group you might want to consider take-out, or get there early and grab a spot outside in the sun :)
They're not cheap either, a full slab of ribs will cost you $20, but Joey's not about quantity or cheap food, it's about the best quality ribs. Trust me, it's worth the money.
Favorite Dish: Go for the wet ribs (dry ones aren't that good), hush puppies and sweet potato fries
Located at the Manhattan Village Mall Islands Fine Burger and Drinks offers what I call the typical Californian cuisine.
Geared towards the health-conscious-good-food-enthusiast people of South Bay this place has a lot to offer to both vegetarians and burger lovers like myself.
The restaurant is rather large so I never had to wait longer than a couple of minutes to be seated if I get here around noon. We came here after work once and my colleagues told me the margaritas are great (I'm a beer drinker myself). They also have booths that seat 8 people so it is also a good place for work lunch meeting.
Favorite Dish: My favourite dish is the blue cheese burger or the chicken fajita - the ingredients are always fresh. A basket of fries is large enough to be shared with another person.
If you're on a low-carb diet go for the protein platter :)

I've had Versailles on my list of places to try for a couple of years now, I finally got a chance to stop by one of their locations this time as we were looking for a place to stop near LAX before hopping on the road to San Diego. Versailles is a Cuban restaurant with 5 locations in the LA area, the 1st of which was opened in 1977.
There was no waiting early on a Thursday night, the service was very prompt.
Favorite Dish: On both visits, I went for the Ropa Vieja ("old clothes"), thinly shredded flank steak in a tomato/wine sauce with peppers and onions. It was very good and came with a side of rice and fried plantains and some black bean soup in a small bowl, the portion size was more than I could finish. David got a pork/chicken combo plate, it was very heavy on the lime and I didn't care for it but my taste buds may have been a little off from a head cold, David did confirm that it had a heavy lime flavor. I also ordered a coconut milkshake that was very good.

Huge portions, the best hummus, gyros, lamb, and baklava.
I remember driving by and just randomly strolling in, only to find this is a zagat rated place for under 10 dollars a plate.
5 Stars. Take-out. I ordered and my wife picked up, but she says she wants to dine-in next time. Not only a good middle eastern joint in the area, but probably the best I've had of this genre...(take-out Lebanese/middle eastern)
The food just got me really excited. Huge portions, fresh ingredients. It screamed, "We care about our food and our customers and are proud of it."

I discovered about this Italian restaurant very recently. The name wasn't appealing to me until someone told me about it. It's excellent Italian food (and believe me I know, my parents live in Italy). I even had some mussels and that was very good also. The atmosphere is very relax, very nice place all around. Worth trying!
Waiters are very friendly, that's always a plus!
I've been to many different Mongolian BBQ restaurants from the ones in the mall to fancier establishments where they bring your food to you after it's been cooked and Big Wok is hands down the best by far! If you are not familiar with Mongolian BBQ, it begins with a self-serve line where you load up a bowl (or two) with frozen meats (usually pork, beef, chicken, and turkey), fresh vegetables, noodles, and a variety of sauces. You then hand your bowls to a chef who is cooks it on a giant round grill in front of you.
One of the best things about Big Wok is that it is all you can eat. You are free to fill up 2 bowls or go back 5 times! Most Mongolian BBQ places only allow you to go through the line once so you try to cram as much as you can into a small bowl. At these other places, I've developed a special technique of pushing down the contents of my bowls with a napkin so I can fit more but not at Big Wok! I start off with 2 bowls: one for meats and veggies and the other for overflow veggies and LOTS of noodles with sauces. And that brings me to my next favorite part of Big Wok is the variety of sauces and the sauce chart. Some places only offer 2-3 sauces where Big Wok offers around 8-9. Other places put the sauce on for you, stiffling customization, or don't give you an guidance and leave you lost, risking the tastiness of your meal! Big Wok has a nice chart that gives you guidance on what to put in your food and how much depending on the flavors and spicyness you are aiming for.
In addition to your nom nom platter of freshly cooked noodles, Big Wok also serves sesame bread pockets complimentary. They are great for eating with your noodles or even stuffing noodles inside! The dining room is large but the place does get crowded during lunchtime, as hungry workers pour in for a good, big meal! The prices are very reasonable and for the vegetarians, you get a discount if you don't get meat! What a deal!
I've never had a meal I didn't like at Big Wok. I love going there whenever I'm in the Los Angeles area.
Memphis At The Beach Café and Bar encompasses a fresh social dining experience for everyone. The totally rebuilt space includes a 110 seat dining room, lounge, and bar geared to Manhattan Beach goers and families.
Their "award winning" cuisine will keep you coming back again, and again, and again ....
Favorite Dish: "Come for the meatloaf, stay for the music"
This is a nice ice-cream parlour and creamery. It has a good range of ice cream, most quite good and some unusual. It's right at the heart of downtown at the corner of Manhattan Beach Blvd (the main east-west street that ends at the pier) and Manhattan Ave. its about 2 blocks from the pier and beach.

Il Fornaio has multiple locations throughout California and a few in other states. I tried to eat here on a Wednesday night and they were very busy and said at least a 1/2 hour wait so I had dinner at Houston's that night so I laughed when Stephanie called me and said we would be meeting at Il Fornaio, good thing I hadn't gotten in the previous night!
This is a nicer "chain" of restaurants than the Olive Garden which we have out in the midwest but it's not a stuffy restaurant, lots of people wearing more casual clothes and I didn't feel out of place in jeans. The service was prompt and friendly on both visits.

Favorite Dish: I ordered a thin crust pizza with ham from the special menu, it was good and more than I could eat. There are several pizza choices, lots of pasta and meat dishes and salads on the menu.
The 2nd time I ate here I had the lasagne Ferrarese, egg pasta with meat ragu, porcini mushrooms, parmesan and bechamel, baked in the oven. It was very good and a large portion. They were very good about accomodating special orders, they said we could switch types of pasta and have sauce on the side for the kids, they would do that for the adults as well.
Shade, the first luxury beach hotel in Manhattan Beach has a certain ambiance only created by the casual beach-style living and understated elegance.
The award winning Zinc Lounge features a great small bites menu, and staff is usually helpful.
The outdoor patio offers the perfect lunchtime getaway. =)
Favorite Dish: ~ The best dish : 3 mini grilled cheese featuring one plain cheese, one prosciutto, and one tomato and a cup of tomato soup.

This restaurant is located in Manhattan Village, off Rosecrans and Sepulveda. Its location is very convenient to the rest of the town, as well as to the freeway.
I went here one Saturday night with my mother. It was quite crowded that night, and it is a family restaurant. We had to wait a bit to get seated since it was a busy evening.
The food is very similar to California Pizza kitchen, since it's owned by the same company. The food is a little more inventive, however.
We had the lettuce wraps which were good, but not quite as good as those at PF Chang's, and I had a salad. The salad was sort of an Asian-inspired chopped salad, which had a good dressing.
We also split a mojito, which was surprisingly strong, and also had some dessert. We had the apple cobbler, which is always a good way to end a meal. You can't go wrong with apple cobbler!
Favorite Dish: I'd order the salad again! it had a bunch of veggies that I like in it... Napa cabbage, cucumbers, avocado, edamame, etc.

Food - very good
At first I wasn't sure whether this place concentrate on the food part of the offering or the beautiful bar scene that is ubiquitous in Manhattan Beach. I was very impressed with the quality of food after trying.
I dined twice here, first time I tried the tortilla encrusted mahi-mahi and the second time I had the Chilean Seabass. Both were just superb. The mahi-mahi had more spice in it for those who likes that taste while the Seabass was fluffy and buttery, just perfect. The Seabass was served with rice and a heavenly cup of cream corn.
Service - very good
Good ratio of waiters to tables, the complimentary chips and salsa is just wonderful (they put both salt and sugar on the chips).
Atmosphere - superb
Probably the main, although not the only, draw of the restaurant. A very good looking bar, nice spacey bar/lounge area, hip and trendy crowd makes it a perfect place to have a few drinks after work or to celebrate.
Price - good
It is not a cheap restaurant. A fish entree will cost you about $20 and a premium tequila will cost around $12; it's all worth the money though if you ask me.
Mucho is a 'tequila' bar and they carry around 40 different types of tequila
Overall - very good
This restaurant in a short amount of time has become one of my favourites.
Uncle Bill's is a cute little restaurant located along one of the main streets in Manhattan Beach. It's on highland, located on a "walk street" which leads directly down to the beach. On the weekends, it's very crowded. The wait times very; obviously, the sunnier and warmer the day is, the longer the wait will be. For fastest service, use the counter in the back, get takeout, or go on an overcast or rainy day! If you don't mind the wait, there's a great view of the ocean from highland. Bring some friends and chat.
It's only open from 7 AM- 2 PM, 7 days a week, so make sure you get up early to get some Uncle Bill's... and by "early," I mean before 2 PM!
If the wait seems too long, you can always go to the Kettle, located on the corner of Highland and Manhattan Beach Blvd. The food isn't as good, nor is the location as charming, but it's still a decent breakfast spot.
Favorite Dish: I've had the muffins, and the macadamia pancakes. I really like the macadamia nut pancakes. They are very well-made; very flavorful and don't require a lot of syrup or butter. The breakfast burrito is also really good; but I prefer the one at Los Amigos in Hermosa!
