Petros is an upscale Greek restaurant with a great atmosphere. The interior is all white and classy The outside patio is a great place to sit.
Favorite Dish: My favorite is the Petros salad with grilled shrimp. It's not your typical salad, there's no lettuce, just tomatoes, cucumbers, avocado, red onion, capers, olives and feta. You'll want to start with an order of the combo dips, which come with warm triangles of pita bread. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.
Without having to hop on a plane to Athens, Petros is the best Greek food in Southern Cali. Located in downtown Manhattan Beach, the restaurant is Zagat rated and is an elegant eatery with a casual beachy twist. The outdoor patio is perfect for bright, sunny days while catching a slight ocean breeze.
The food itself is perfect; flavorful, exciting, and featuring rich Mediterranean flavors.
Favorite Dish: *Feta-crusted lamb is excellent
*Petros Horiatiki Salad (their version of the greek salad...so tasty!)
*Mousaka is simple, filling, and flavorful
*Tzatzki zip is awesome!
*Gemista is a tomato stuffed with lamb, beef, rice, and feta
*Greek yogurt is a clean, palate cleansing way to finish the meal
*Mini-donuts are super rich and decadent!
I had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and finally got the chance to try it for lunch with several co-workers.
Food - very good
I had the chicken souvlaki, which was grilled skewered chicken with grilled pepper over brown rice. Everything was good: the chicken, the peppers, vegetables, rice and the yoghurt sauce. My colleagues had the Gyro and the cantaloupe salad, they all said the dishes were wonderful.
Ambiance - very good
It was a sunny warm December day so we sat outside on the patio. Located at Manhattan Beach Boulevard one block up from Highland means that on a nice day you get to sit in the sun enjoying the ocean breeze.
Service - good
Waitress was attentive and friendly, but the hostess was rude and offered no smile. However, I gave them a rating of 'good' service since the manager(?) was patient and helpful. One of my colleagues expected to get a salad with her bruschetta since the item was listed under the 'salad' header. The manager took it back and let her order another item without problems.
Price - ok
Lunch was $15 per person including tip
Overall - good
Will definitely come back here, and would like to try their dinner menu.
Petro's is an upscale Greek restaurant in downtown Manhattan Beach with all white walls and white decor. For dinner, they light a bunch of candles, which adds a nice touch to the ambience.
I was there on a Monday night, and the restaurant was not too busy, and the food was great!
Favorite Dish: Started with the house salad, really fresh and ripe ingredients - tomatoes, cucumbers and avocados. I had the Shrimp and Chicken Souvlaki, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The grilled peppers were probably the best part of the dish, followed by the shrimp which had a wonderful light seasoning and were grilled perfectly. The chicken was a little bland, but overall the dish was really good! I'd definitely go back there again, especially since it's a 10 min walk from my place.
This restaurant is a pleasant new addition to the selection of restaurants in Manhattan Beach. The menu has a lot of different, creative offerings. Most of the menu is traditionally Greek, from the appetizers, like a selection of dips from hummus to tzaziki to babaganounsh, through to desserts and a selection of digestives, like ouzo and grappa.
The restaurant is new (opened Jan 2006) and the owner, Petros Benekos, is a first time restaurant owner (his background is in the clothing business and he has a clothing store next door the restaurant under the same name) and as you would expect there are some operational and service issues that will need to be worked out. I'm sure they'll figure it out soon.
The menu is delicious and the chef has done a terrific job. Their specialty entree is the roasted chicken. Doesn't sound that spectacular, huh? But it is awesome... still craving it. We also had the lamb chops which were great as well. We've had a couple different fish dishes as well, not as outstanding as the others. Portions are small... especially for the price.
Portion size isn't that important to me, but I even found these portions to be small. Especially when you consider the price of each dish, the portions seem even smaller. This place isn't cheap. The entrees are from mid 20's to high 30's. The drinks are pricey too.
All in all, I really dig this new place and I?ll be going back.
Amazing Greek food that is consistent and unique. The restaurant is one of the best in LA (rumor has it) and it is always packed with people from all over LA.
