    Manhattan Beach Pier

The pier was constructed by the City of Manhattan Beach during the years 1917-1920. The roundhouse building was added a year later. The innovative design featured a rounded end to the pier, which helped it withstand the pounding of the Pacific. Although the roundhouse was reconstructed in 1992, the pier itself survives as southern California's oldest remaining example of early reinforced concrete pier construction.

On Saturday while heading to the Volleyball party at the beach, we walked along the pier and of course, this man was making a few kids around... very happy (ok I can be a kid as well LOL)

Manhattan Beach's Pier is not (overly) developed like the ones in Redondo Beach or Santa Monica, it's merely a pier that you can walk out onto to get a nice view of the ocean without getting sand in your shoes.

I saw a few guys fishing from the end of the pier and there's the Roundhouse Aquarium at the end of the pier which is free to visit but I only had a few minutes so I snapped a couple of photos and was on my way.

You can park in the lots nearby, be sure to bring quarters for the meter.

    Manhattan Beach Pier

The pier in Manhattan Beach is very nice as well. You get a good view of life on the beach and the ocean from here. In the building at the end of it you will find a snackbar serving chips and icecream, an aquarium showing fish and other sea creatures as well as restrooms.

    Shovelnose Shark

I was lucky to witness a fisherman catching a Shovelnose Shark ,at the Pier the Shark gave the fisherman a good fight ,but after some time the Shark gave up and the fishermen could then put a net under the Shark..

    Shovelnose Shark

I was good to see how careful these fishermen were with taking the fish hook out of the Shark and how fast they released this beautiful Shovelnose Shark back into the water. Many kids and adults were standing around watching this event.

This is an attractive long pier that starts at the foot of Manhattan Beach Blvd in the heart of downtown. The struxcture itself is attractive and interesting, it has nice views of town, the beach, and the sunset, and it has a little cafe at the end. It is also a popular place for fishing.

Manhattan Beach Pier- Nothing Fishy Going On Here

    The Pier at Manhattan Beach

As piers go, Manhattan Beach is quite small. It's got a take-out restaurant, a very small aquarium (admission is free, but donations are most appreciated), and fishing. In fact, if you're into fishing, bring your pole to the pier. Maybe they're biting.

The pier itself is instantly recognizable. It sort of divides the beach in half.

    Manhattan Beach Pier

The pier was built in the 1920s and is a very famous landmark of the South Bay. There is a nice little aquarium in the building at the end of the pier. It is free, but they ask for donations to keep it running... $1.00 per person is good.

This is a view of the pier from the Beach. A typical image of many American films

I was only waiting to see the lifeguards of baywatch running along the beach ;-)
