This Ocean Express is a private bus company that offers rides to Manhattan Beach from anyone of thirteen hotels located near LAX. So if you are staying at one of the hotels listed on this page:

Then you should check with your concierge or front desk.

    Bicycle Lane!

by lmkluque Updated Aug 22, 2014

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Californians are known to be health conscious and none more so than those who live near a beach! Many reasons for that I'm sure. Just as many ways to stay healthy too, like riding a bike.

So many people in Manhattan Beach ride bikes that the city designated a special lane for bike riders. I thought it was just a sidewalk until I nearly got run over. It was after that that I saw the sign designating the space to bicycles. Except for the hilly landscape, I'd say that riding a bike around town was the best way to go.

If you'll notice, it seems that the common place to park bikes are at the parking meters.

The nearest to the beach, rental shop that I know of is:

    1116 Manhattan Avenue
    Manhattan Beach, CA 90266

Do Manhattan via LAX (BCT 109)

by marinarena Updated Aug 7, 2012

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The BCT is convenient from the LAX airport. It departs from the LAX Transit Center (Lot C) area and also at the nearby Aviation Station (off the Green Line). If you have a long layover before departing from L.A. and you want to kill some time in lovely fashion, head on BCT 109 route (w/ Redondo Beach headsign) and in about 25 min, arrive in downtown Manhattan beach from the 14th St/Highland intersection (Picture shown this immediate area). Last time departing Manhattan to LAX is approx. 8:30 PM. Check website for updated info/schedule.

    Walking

by WulfstanTraveller Written Dec 19, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The primary part of Manhattan Beach that is of interest is quite compact, with mostly very narrow streets and it is quite pleasant and easy to walk around. When here, I stayed at the Marriott for a conference. It is away from the portion of town along the beach, off Rosecrans a couple blocks east of Sepulveda Blvd/Hwy 1, the main north-south thoroughfare through town. Even from there, I found it easy and enjoyable to walk all the way down to the beach and the pier, and even beyond. It took a while, and I had to negotiate some hills here and there, but it was qwuite interesting and pleasant. Within the main interesting part of town itself, walking is quite easy and the distances short. Driving and trying to park in downtown seem more problematic.

The most pleasant place to walk is along the Strand, the pedestrian/bicycle "street" right along the beach. In summer, in particular, this is more pleasant because cooled by the breezes which don't penetrate the dense, narrow inner streets.

    Very Close to the Airport

by WulfstanTraveller Written Dec 19, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Manhattan Beach is conveniently close to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). It's only about 3 miles south, straight down Hwy 1/Sepulveda Blvd, which goes directly from the aiport through town. The drive is short, direct, and easy.

    Bike or Cab

    by rjweber21 Written Feb 4, 2006

    Ride a bike.

For the best cab ride ever call Kenny or Ali 310 918-2354

The stage is set for a night out on the town, and since the party scene in the South Bay area of Los Angeles is so intense (to say nothing of the parking situation), driving is not an option.

Instead of their cars, locals rely on Kenny the Cab Driver and his rock 'n roll taxi to take them to the bars and parties. It's a trip so entertaining that arriving at the destination is a bit anticlimactic; you almost want him to drive around the block a few times in order to continue the experience.

Getting into Kenny's cab is like stepping into "Saturday Night Fever." It has Christmas lights, cranking dance music, is covered with snapshots of frequent patrons and features free candy. About the only thing missing is a disco ball. (description from PUBCLUB).
