Marina Restaurants

  • by patamat Updated Jul 5, 2006

Marina Seafood Restaurant is an old favorite under new ownership. Rene Herrera, chef/owner has lots of local restaurant experience. Italian and fresh seafood are the focus with fine sauces and warm, friendly ambience. Give it a try. Takeout also.

Good bar, usually busy but they make a really good Blackened Artichoke. For the most out of your evening get a table and order an entree the waiter/ess will explain how it works.

Favorite Dish: Artichoke is marinated in a balsamic vinaigrette and roasted over flames. Desert is a rootbeer float.

    Daughter in our backyard

by grandmaR Updated May 28, 2005

Favorite thing: Between 1964 and 1966, we lived in Marina, just north of Fort Ord while my husband went to the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey. Our house was apparently built on a sand dune, and any areas that were not planted with lawn and extensively watered every day looked like this. Our landlady had a small patch of lawn in the front and ice plant around the edges. But here in the back yard it was just sand.

Fondest memory: My girls loved to play in the sand, and we also had a swing set back here which you can see in back of my daughter. They could also go up and look at the sheep on the farm in back of us.

    Sheep and water tank

by grandmaR Written May 28, 2005

Favorite thing: Our area was really quite rural. Our back yard (which was all sand) backed up to this farm which had sheep. There are two water tanks in this picture. One of them- the closest one looks like a regular stock tank. The other one in the back looks like a small square tower with the tank on the top.

Fondest memory: In this area of California, it rarely rains. It is sometimes quite foggy here though.

It rains in the winter sometimes. Otherwise, although it may cloud over and look like rain, it doesn't rain. So water storage for the livestock is necessary. It doesn't freeze here either, so that isn't a problem.

Whenever we traveled inland, I always had to think what season of the year it was - because while it was always kind of spring like where we were, just 50 miles away it might be over 100 degrees, or there might be snow.
