When passing through Marysville and/or Yuba City, be sure to keep your doors locked and windows rolled up, especially when you see bums on the street corners. Do NOT roll down any window when they are present. It's best to fill up your gas tank before passing through this area, so as to avoid being targeted by aggressive panhandlers. Gas stations are among their favorite places to loiter.
Lane splitting is absolutely legal in California*, and also very dangerous. That's what makes it so fun, of course. When traffic is slowing down your motorcycle ride and your engine is radiating a seering heat, just ride along the dotted line between the cars until traffic starts moving again.
You will need: a working motorcycle, preferably with mirrors. Armored jacket and pants along with combat boots, leather gloves, and a DOD-approved kevlar helmet.
* As of January 2004. It is your responsibility to check CA DMV and local laws.
Don't tick off the truckers. I'm guessing that 30% of the vehicles on the road are pickup trucks, and about half of them like to race each other from the stop lights. I can't blame them, this town is a bit dull.
