 | Mill Valley Restaurants | Tips 1 - 6 of 6 | | Excerpt from the Buckeye's website that really sums up the atmosphere: "This charming landmark has been part of Marin's postcard scenery since 1937. New ownership launched a major renovation in the early 1990s, enhancing the structure's inherent country warmth and embellishing its interior with a large river-rock fireplace, Italian light fixtures, commissioned artwork, strands of cable from the Golden Gate, and a moosehead trophy affectionately known as "Buckwinkle." The atmosphere in the upstairs and downstairs dining rooms and in the tavern bar blends the air of a cozy hunting lodge with the genuine comfort of a well-tended home." The restaurant and bar are allllways crowded, so going at peak dinner reservation hours means you'll be elbowing your way to the bar to get a cocktail. If you're really hungry or claustrophobic, you might not enjoy your experience. However, if you can deal with that, then you'll definitely enjoy the place.
Favorite appetizer is Oysters Bingo. Oh my goodness are they good! Last night my main course was mongolian pork chops with chive mashed potatoes. WOW, it was delicous and perfect! Favorite cocktail: buckshot. Mmmm. When i travel, the only thing i miss is my Punjabi burrito. The owners are from the Punjab region of india and their food is prepared with love and care that you can taste! The burritos are wrapped in a naan bread with mango chutney, chick peas and a few other exciting tastes! It is a small restaurant with about three tables. You can also take your burrito to Marin County's infamous Sweetwater Cafe down the block and wash it down with a beer while listening to local music. They also own a slightly more formal sit-down restaurant in Sausalito. The food there is amazing as well! This restaurant has been in the center of Mill Valley for almost 30 years. We went there when it first opened. The two brothers from Italy who started it are still there and doing a fabulous job! Just moved back to California and was excited it was still there, and was even better than I remember. It was absolutely packed with people. It looked like people without reservations were waiting at least an hour. The wine list is extensive -- mostly Italian. The wine steward knows everything about every wine -- I wouldn't choose a wine without his description and confirmation that it would meet my taste preferences. The service is outstanding. Everything about the place is just like being in a restaurant in Italy. Nice outside patio too. Prices are less expensive than anywhere else for this quality and service, even though it is not inexpensive.
Pasta, pasta, pasta. Everything on the daily menu. Fish, duck, salads. EVERYTHING! Leave a Comment Theme: ItalianPrice: US$31-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Across from the main plaza downtown.

Stefanos is a wonderful pizzeria in the heart of downtown Mill Valley. A long time sponsor of Little League, Girlscouts and other charities, Stefanos not only serves a great pizza but does so with a conscious! Stefanos pizza is a local teen fave and kids often hang out during the weekends in or around Stefanos. The pizza, which can be bought by the slice or by the pie, is delicous. It's crust is thin and crispy, the melted cheese is flavorfull, and a free soda comes with a slice! Slices of cheese pizza which can be bought already-made are $3.60 with complimentary sodas. Pies range from $13 to $18 dollars. Two insider tips: 1. Stefanos slices are very, very large. It is unnecessary to buy two unless you are extremely hungry. 2. The slices are always fresh and warm, but if you are a picky eater and want your slice very fresh and very warm, order an extra topping. Stefanos rarely simply adds another topping onto pre-made cheese slices, they make a fresh pizza with the topping of your choice and serve it to you in the slice. All in all, Stefanos is a charming, cheap, and delicous way to eat a meal in Mill Valley. The Dipsea Cafe in Mill Valley is one of two restaurants in Marin County. It is named for the famous Dipsea Trail/Dipsea Race from Mill Valley to Stinson Beach. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and it's good, local, hearty fare at a decent price. The restaurant is decorated in classic Americana and has a warm, open, friendly feel. I visited on a Sunday morning and the place was slammed with locals, mostly upper class Caucasian clientele. The food was first class - hot, generous, and delicious! The service was not very good. The waitress was extremely busy, we had to wait 20 minutes for our coffee, and the entrees came 45 minutes later. It was difficult getting refills on our coffee. Granted, the waitress was doing the best she could, I think the place was understaffed. The parking is difficult - valet service would be helpful, we had a tough time getting out of the lot. Unfortunately, this is a common problem in Marin.
We had breakfast, and the pancakes were excellent. The portions were very generous, hot and delicious! The orange juice was fresh squeezed!!! Everything was great. Our first visit was for Valentine's Day. Instead of their standard, a la carte menu, they had a single prix fixe menu from which one could choose from a variety of tasty sounding dishes. The tables all had long-stem red roses, had heart-shaped confetti spread upon them and the ceiling was filled with red, white and heart shaped mylar baloons. The background music was a wonderful mix of bassonova and acid jazz. All in all, a great atmosphere! The food, oh, the food... we're still TOO FULL.
The prix fixe menus was just fabulous. There were two or three choices for each course: appetizer, soup, salad, main course and dessert. Each course was also paired with a delicious wine, including port or muscat with dessert. Mmmm. Aside from the appetizer, we got different dishes per course and shared them. All in all we had: Wild mushrooms in a polenta tarte, topped with melted brie; beet and fennel soup; dungeness crab soup; frisse and endive salad with fresh mandarin oranges; chopped salad with spiced pecans, apples and maytag blue cheese; filet mignon with potatoes au gratin and onion rings; chillean sea bass in parmesan crust atop turnip puree and baked tomato; molten chocolate cake with crema con leche ice cream; rhubarb crisp with buttermilk ice cream. OH MY GOD, MY STOMACH HURTS -- TOO MUCH FOOD. But it was SO good.
