Sailing is quite popular on Mission Bay and some hotels will rent sail boats to the public. If you have your own boat, there are docking and launching facilities. Also motor boats can be rented if that is more to your liking.
Seaforth, Mission Bay offers rentals of jet skis, sail boats, motor boats and other personal water craft, within the limits of Mission Bay Park and is quite conveniently located near Mission Bay Channel for the more adventurous sailors.
There are other rental companies, but Seaforth is the one I know best and they have a good reputation.
Next to the importance of learning how to sail, the most important thing is to know the rules of the water. There are Federal, State and City regulations that apply to all sailors and boaters in Mission Bay. If you think you'd like to sail the bay or ocean, check the website below and learn how to stay with-in the law.
Equipment: If you bring your own boat, check that it is properly equipped, depending on it's size, with the standard items. If you're renting a boat, it will come equipped as required.
Want to charter a fishing boat, go "deep sea" fishing or whale watching? Seaforth offers it all.
Chartering a boat for half-day is about $700.00 with a six person limit. Of course the price includes, bait, tackle, license, beverages, snacks and fillet service. However it is not necessary to actually charter a boat. Fishing tours or whale watching tours are much less expensive
Half-day fishing trip begins at 6:00 am and at 12:30 pm and is just the thing for beginners. Adults $38.00 and children under 15 $28.00 you must have a California fishing license and that will cost about $11.55 per day
During the winter months one of the most popular things to do is Whale watching and Seaforth offers that too. On weekends and holidays they go out twice a day 10:00 am and at 1:00 pm. On weekdays they go out once at 1:00 pm. The price of the trip is $20.00 for adults and $15.00 for juniors and seniors. This trip comes with a guarantee of seeing whales or a rain check will be given for another trip. Can't beat that.
Equipment: All equipment can be bought or rented at their Tackle Shop.
