Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Winter time is the rainy season, meaning lots of light mist and a little rain, but it can last much of the day. An umbrella or rain coat might come in handy during this time of year. January, February, and March average 3-4 inches of rain per month each year.

The average daily high temperatures throughout the year range from 60 to 70 degrees, even in winter, while the average daily low temps are between about 45 and 55.

July and August are usually considered the foggiest months in Monterey, but just
10 miles inland it is almost always clear, sunny, and about 20-30 degrees
warmer.

Spring is usually a very nice time here, with all kinds of wildflowers in
bloom... just yesterday we drove out to Carmel Valley and we enjoyed huge
fields full of blue and yellow flowers. Also, inland the hills are green in
spring... they rest of the year it is so dry the inland hills are all brown.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: The weather varies a lot in Monterey. One morning you might wake up to bright and sunny skies, but head over to Cannery Row or Pacific Grove and the fog bank will be sitting over the town, dropping the temperature 10-15 degrees. I try to keep a light sweater handy...you won't need a heavy coat. The two photos on this tip illustrate the point. The first picture shows the fog along Ocean View Drive in Pacific Grove. The next photo was taken about 20 minutes earlier, looking in the other direction from Lovers Point to Monterey.

Miscellaneous: It seems you can always tell locals from tourists because locals are prepared for the cold weather with jackets and sweatshirts. Out-of-towners seem to always be wearing T-shirts and shorts (hey, it's California, it's supposed to be warm all the time!).

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Don't forget that the Monterey Peninsula is right on the ocean -- although it can get pretty warm at midday, in the summer the fog often rolls in in late afternoon, the temperature drops 30 degrees, and you won't thaw out until the fog burns off the next morning. Always bring a sweater or jacket, no matter how hot it is inland, and, if you're prone to cold toes, bring socks or closed-toe shoes too. Winters are mild (that Pacific current again), but can be extremely wet, so bring an umbrella and shoes suitable for wading through puddles. Personally, I think fall (late Sept.-Oct.) is the best time to visit, but fog or early rains can happen even then.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Being on the coast, it is chilly in Monterey - even during the summer. I was there the end of June and it was only in the low 70s during the day and high 50s at night. I walked around a street fest and everyone was wearing fleece and the vendors were selling hats and wraps.

Luggage and bags: Any bag is fine, if you need a golf bag and clubs you can rent them here. Bring money, it's expensive to play golf in 'golfers' heaven!'

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Bring a sweater or two. The average temperatures are 65 degrees winter or summer.
In the sun it might be warm, a fogbank may easily cool everything down. Be prepared have something warm to wear at hand.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Monterey has excellent medical facilities, no reason to bring more than necessary.

Photo Equipment: Any camera will do.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: If you plan on camping, there is a small city owned campground up on the hill, just behind the Veterans Memorial Hall.
There is plenty of campground space south in the National Forest, Big Sur which is about 26 miles south.
If you like to bicycle, there are miles and miles of bicycle paths along the ocean and inland waiting for you.
If you have a motorboat with a leaky engine don't bring it here. The laws are very strict and the fines are heafty for any polutions. The bay is a National Marine Santuary and oil leaking from hulls or engines are not tolerated.

Luggage and bags: if you plan to stay a night or two at the hotel, then bring a light travel bag but you're only here for a day tour, then a small type of bag will do.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: the weather can change abruptly in monterey, always bring a handy sweater or scarf or a wind breaker so that you are prepared for sudden weather changes but you don't need to bring a water proof garment since it doesn't rain that much in the central coast, only occasional drizzles and an umbrella will suffice.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: always have some first aid supplies in your bag like pain relievers or anti-allergy tablets or indigestion tablets as you might have some allergy to sea food or maybe have an indigestion due to overeating of the wonderful assortment of sea foods in monterey.

Photo Equipment: bring the usual camera whether point or shoot, ultra zoom or the heavy Digital SLR's so you can take a lot of pictures and/or videos of the place.

Luggage and bags: Pack lite, bring a jacket to Monterey.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Rarely rains, but often cold, windy.

Photo Equipment: Lots of film or memory cards.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: surf or scuba.
