This restaurant generally is open daily at 11:00 A.M., closing at 10:00 P.M. Sunday - Thursday, and 11:00 P.M Friday and Saturday nights. Note, however, that these times may be subject to change. We ate here twice, and had a good meal both times. We had raw oysters, calamari, ribs, and shrimp. All of it was delicious. We had a waterfront window table the second time we ate here and enjoyed watching an otter feeding just below us. Two seagulls also splashed down near him, hoping to pick up some crumbs that the otter may leave behind.

Fried Shrimp and other seafood. It's not my thing but once in a while I guess one could crave this kind of food. I think you go to eat at a place like this for the fun of it! Anyway, we didn't dine here but I got a kick out of Forest Gump sitting on the bench sharing his box of chocolates with the kids and inviting people to sit next to him for photos.
Bubba Gumps is the unusual chain restaurant with a concept based off of a movie (Forest Gump). The best thing about Monterey's location is that it is the first Bubba Gump Shrimp Company Location, and it opened way back in 1996. Their restaurants are family friendly and casual, maybe that's why it seems to be such a popular place... even better, you don't have to think much to come here: since it's a chain, all of their locations have virtually identical food and atmosphere. Their menu has a variety of sandwiches, shrimp appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and mostly seafood entrees.
I have lived just a few blocks from Bubba Gumps for almost two years, and I only ventured into Bubba Gumps once, and even then only to get drinks. Its a friendly enough place, on the water with great views, and a relaxing dockside environment. Fact is, its still a chain, and I have a hard time justifying frequenting a major corporate entity when there are so many great local restaurants in and around Monterey. Want seafood? Try the Monterey Fish House. Crave that location on the water? How about the Sand Bar and Grill? Even the Fish Hopper is locally owned.
Bubba Gump Shrimp and Company Restaurant is easily one of my favorites plus their branch here at Monterey has panoramic views of the Monterey Bay Area. Almost everyone is familiar with the movie "Forrest Gump," and this is an excellent commercial adaptation of that theme and story in a fun eatery. Launched in 1996 by Viacom Consumer Products and the Rusty Pelican Company, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. became the first theme restaurant inspired by a film. The restaurant has also gained fame for its unique paging system consisting of two license plates on the tables marked "Run Forrest Run" from Jenny's famous quote and "Stop Forrest Stop" based on the signs used to help Forrest when he played football at the University of Alabama. The red "Stop Forrest Stop" sign is used to signal that a table needs service and the blue "Run Forrest Run" means that all is well.

Favorite Dish: The menu at Bubba Gump consists mostly of shrimp dishes, but also other seafood, as well as Southern and Cajun cuisine. Of the company's menu, the company's CEO says (quoting from the movie) that "shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo, pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried, there's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. Th-that's about it."
They have assorted seafood dishes dun cajun style like calamari, orpillo crab, a boat trash full of sea foods and more. Also try their special cocktails like Bayou Surpise and Delta Sunset for $ 9.50, Perfect!
