by malianrob I took the baby here and he was just mesmerized by all the fish. This place is big and has a variety of different species. Not only is this place interesting but it is also educational. It doesnt cost too much to get in and you can easily spend more than half the day here.

Pet the bat stingray!!! by volarevolare It was summer and the weather was just the perfect summer day that anyone could ask for -- bright, breezy and not a cloud in the sky! The one place we headed straight for was the Monterey Bay Aquarium! I didn't see much else of Monterey but I'm glad I spent all my short time in the aquarium! It's a first class aquarium that's a DEFINITE MUST SEE for everyone who passes by this little town along their drive down the PCH1. I remember seeing the ceiling high tank filled with various seaweeds that swayed rhythmically... I loved the jellyfish section -- imagine walking into a dark, cavern-like space where the only lights are those that emanate from the huge, gallery wall sized tanks that frame the walls like magical paintings... and in them, different species of jellyfishes, all drifting in the water to their own synchronised movements, each opening and closing of their parachute like bodies slowly, slowly, slowly... drawing you in with their soothing rhythmic movements. Very aptly so, there are benches for you to sit and watch the transfixing show before you... and very soon, you will feel like you're floating into space... I sure did! It was one of the most relaxing experiences equalling and bettering a visit to the spa! I was so enthralled to see the various species of jellyfishes -- some were really tiny, with small electric flashes of light emitting from their translucent bodies... and others were like fussy brides with thick, organza frills for a tail... :) Of course, there was also a petting pool where I actually petted a bat stingray! Imagine that! I rustled the water with my hand in the pool, and soon enough, it came by and let me stroke it's slippery, leathery skin... apparently, this bat stingray was so friendly and enjoyed being petted! :) And there was this sea slug that i managed to touch too... it was the softest thing ever! Even much softer than tofu! It was so funny to feel it! You've got to visit the aquarium to do this and more! Leave a Comment
