Trophy Lounge: Old Long Time Favorite

by lmkluque Updated Jul 27, 2013

The Trophy Lounge has been around for many years. It is quite popular, especially with the guys and gals from the Naval Base about a mile away.

This is not an up-scale hipster spot, more like an old, casual neighborhood spot catering to all age groups. The price of a drink is not too high and sometimes they charge a cover and the music is provided by a D.J.

If you are used to "high-end" type clubs, this will be a novelty or a shock, but it stays open until "bar closing hours, 1:30 am or 2:00 pm, so it is a good "late" night spot.

Dress Code: Stylishly casual is the basic dress code, but not formal.

Cafe La Maze: Live Music and Dancing Old Style

by lmkluque Written Jul 27, 2013

The live music is a piano bar, the dance floor is rather small and it's only during the weekend. They do bring in a jazz group as well.

This is a local favorite and one of very few formal dinning rooms in National City. It can get crowded or be practically empty but it is worth a visit to experience old school dining from days gone by. (1940's)

The dimly lit dining room has red leather booths/chairs, black & white photos of famous stars who have frequented this historic restaurant on the walls and a full service bar. During the week they close at 9 pm and 10 pm Friday and Saturday. So, it's not a "late" night spot.

Dress Code: Though it might not look like it from the outside, this is a place to be dressed up, but as far as I know there is very little in the way of a dress code.

AMC Plaza Bonita 14: Movies at the Mall

by lmkluque Updated Jul 18, 2013

This is a popular place for everyone. Just to give you an idea how popular this shopping mall and movie theater is, I'll mention that right in the middle of the depression they were able to expand.

The latest movies are shown here and there is plenty of free parking. However, if you are relying on public transportation there is bus stop in the parking lot.

The whole mall has been renovated as well as expanded and the AMC theaters are in a new spot located at the south end, in the midst of the food court. They have added several extra theaters in the multi-plex, 14 screens now, so more choices for you.

They also show films in IMAX and Real 3D.

Dress Code: No real dress code here, just come as you are.
