In the day, South Bay Plaza Shopping Center was the place to shop in National City. Since, it has faced a sharp decline. Thankfully a few places like Chuck E. Cheese, Hometown Buffet and Price Breakers are keeping South Bay Plaza alive. It's up for lease and hopefully a company will scoop it up and renovate to compete with other renovation projects in N.C.

Though The Barbeque Pit is not part of South Bay Plaza, it seems as it is because they shares a parking lot. This is the case with several other stores in the same block.*

What to buy: At Price Breakers you can get all sorts of cheap things that you never knew you wanted. HomeTown is a moderately priced all-you-can-eat buffet with a huge selection to choose from and Chuck E's is a great place to take the kids to let off a bit of energy.

What to pay: Each of these business' are more budget type places.

Westfield's Plaza Bonita Mall: A Local Favorite

Plaza Bonita is the place to shop in National City. It is a nice mall with a myriad variety of shops, department stores, restaurants and movie theaters to choose from. One of the things to consider about Plaza Bonita is that the prices at each store will be generally lower than in the same brand store that is also located in a mall at the north end of San Diego. The savings is not always very much, but over all would be worth shopping here.

I'm not into shopping much but this is a big mall and easy to get around. Also, it is an enclosed mall so a great place to stay cool in the summer and warm/dry in the winter.

    Update:

Plaza Bonita has been renovated and expanded it now about 50% bigger than before. The AMC movie theater also expanded to 14 screens to choose from and a few new restaurants in and out of the the food court as well as new shops in the mall.

What to buy: What to buy? Well, what ever you want or need from designer clothes to kids toys and most anything in between. The best thing is that you'll spend less here than at other malls in the county.
