    Finding Parking in Town

    by TooTallFinn24 Written Dec 1, 2011

    Parking spaces are limited in Nevada City and backing into some of them with hilly conditions can be difficult. There are nine parking lots in town and several hundred on street parking lots of which only six are reasonable choices for tourists wanting to get out and see the City. A link showing all is provided below;

    Two areas of town that will sometimes have parking spaces when others fill up are the Commerical Street parking lot (Map Location 3) and the Nevada City Veterans Hall but is limited and pretty far out of the way. The former offers parking for two hours for 25 cents and the latter is free. Bring your quarters!

    Park and Shuttle in

    Parking can be difficult in Nevada City during events like Victorian Christmas or the Summer Bike Race. Broad and Commercial Streets are closed to through traffic. The Police Dept have ordained that parking is not allowed on “On Ramps” or “Off Ramps” of Hwys 49 and 20. Cars parked on the ramps will be ticketed and may be towed.

    Take the Shuttle
    Drop your group off in town and then park your car and catch the Shuttle from the Nevada County Government Center, 950 Maidu Avenue, Nevada City CA 95959.

    Shuttle costs $5 for adults and children 15 and over. Children under 15 ride free.
    Return journeys are free for all.
    Victorian Christmas Shuttle hours are 4:30-9:30 pm Wednesdays and noon-6:30pm Sundays.

    Call the Nevada City Police Dept. at 530-265-4700 to discuss parking a bus on the overpass.

    For information, contact the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce at (530) 265-2692 or toll-free (800) 655-NJOY.

    From San Francisco take I-80 to Vallejo/Sacramento; after about 70 miles merge onto I-80E and take East Ramp towards Reno; travel about 35 miles and take exit CA-49 to Grass Valley/Placerville; turn left onto CA-193; after 28 miles CA-139 becomes CA-49 -> turn left; after aproximatly 27 miles take exit Broad Street. Found it?
    You'd better have a car in Nevada County....!

    One you're in town, walking is the best way to get around. Just like this couple is doing, walking down the aisle.
