Newport Beach Things to Do

  • Balboa Pier

Here is the charming part of greater Newport Beach, at Balboa Island. It is relatively quiet. Couples new and old, as well as families, can take a nice stroll without so much traffic. Right by the beach, there is a family fun zone area with rides , shops, pizza and ice cream. For all of you familiar with New York, this is like Coney Island !! More...

  • Harbor Cruise

The annual Christmas Boat Parade is a crowd pleaser for locals and many visitors. Fancy yachts , boats and kayaks dazzle marvelously while going on a 2 hour cruise, starting around 6:30. Capturing the best views is fun or frustrating. The best bet for reserve seating is to contact local groups like the American Legion Post and people at the Newport...

Newport Beach Restaurants

  • Dine, Delight in Seasonal Offerings

Great Maple is a gorgeous dining and libations spot nestled in the Nordstrom wing of Fashion Island. Arguably, it is the finest dining experience you'll ever find at a mall. Of course, Fashion Island is no typical mall. As one of the premier restaurants in Newport, Great Maple serves the freshest of food every time and captures an exquisite...

Azar's Pizza is not run of the mill. Get quality, fresh pizza always- or very filling sandwiches, salads, or typical American appetizers like buffalo wings.I've come almost exclusively for the pizza, particularly the slices. I get one or two and go to enjoy Balboa by the water. Unlike a few pizzerias close by, wait for about 5 min for a fresh...

We bought tickets for an evening performance of the Jazz festival. There was an option to include dining at the hotel's restaurant which we opted for. The Galley is probably my favorite breakfast spot in Orange County (my old stomping grounds). Not because it was my most frequented breakfast option (it wasn't) or because it has the best food, but because of its quirkiness and the personal memories I associate with the place. Don't get me wrong, the food is very solid, old school diner fare......

The Diedrich family name is well known in coffee/espresso circles.I was very surprised to find out that thier small capuccino was 12 oz. Newport Beach Nightlife

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Must be the hottest spot in town for Tuesday nights. $5 cover gets you all the tacos you can eat. Better get there early though to secure a table especially during the summer months. Unfortunately, your cervezas are not happy hour prices. Ask your bartender though to see if they have special drink prices.

  • Take a Ferry ride to Balboa

One can embark on a small scale but fun ride on a ferry for a few bucks! Though the ride is only for about 5 min, it sure beats riding on the shorter kiddie horses and other creatures found in the malls for a quarter. Well, certainly, adults would look silly on one of theose mall diversions. So, thankfully the ferry is still a-going in Newport....

Newport Beach Warnings and Dangers

  • Avoid the Wedge, you Novice and Pro

The Wedge is the big ado of Newport Beach waters. It is an extreme, slamming wave off the eastern end of Balboa Peninsula. It's so legendary that famed surf rock guru Dick Dale sung its praises and was featured in the surf lovin' film, The Endless Summer. The huge, deadly swell has reached as high as 30 ft. Bettr to watch from afar this wondurous...

I can't paint you because I don't know you, but I like...

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Sandals is the way to go. But bring regular shoes if you are coming in winter. Sneakers is fine.

Photo Equipment: Camera is a must.

Miscellaneous: Don't forget your towel. And if you come in winter... bring a jacket.

Newport Beach Off The Beaten Path

  • Relax in Cannery Row/Village...

A quiet, charming architectural part of Newport Beach good for strolling is within the Balboa area of Cannery Village- Cannery Row. I happened to stroll through here on my way back from the beach. The Row stretches roughly along Lafayette Rd between 28th and 31st.
