As stated in the introduction, my reason for being in "Norwalk" / Santa Fe Springs was to attend the Norwalk VT Meeting, so most of my tips will reflect that experience.
When Keith wrote about his plan to have a Belly Dancer at the meeting, my first thought was, why a belly dancer?
Oh, I knew, the San Francisco VT Weekender included a belly dancer and just the thought of it reved up the imagination of everyone before the event and brought lots of laughs during the event. Just look at all the photos and read all the comments about the SF VT Weekender to see what I mean.
However, the Norwalk VT Meeting would surely be much smaller... well, the idea of inviting her was curious to me and others, I think.
This photo of Supun, "Supune" and Nancy, "Goner" may well give you an idea about the mixed action to the Belly Dancer.

Honestly, the facade of Rachada disappointed me. Since I am the type of person who keeps an open mind, I looked forward to finding the redeeming qualities of the restaurant in this run-down strip mall. It didn't take long. The owner was a lovely woman who immediately went to work to see that we felt welcomed and enjoyed our time in her...more
Arrived at Norwalk early, checked the place out, found the Rachada, stopped for gas then went to the local Ralphs to buy postcards and still had time before the meeting. The only place I found to rest before the meeting was Starbucks. The kids working there were pretty entertaining. One was clumsy and the other had a fascinating style about her.The...more
Rachada has an unimpressive facade in a small, unimpressive strip mall on a busy main highway. On the other side of the door, I noticed several signs on the wall informing the clientele of various events that would take place in Rachada. Dancers apperaring weekly and the Hawaiian Luau planned a few weeks ahead were two that come to mind. If nothing...more
Great food, interesting drinks and a Belly Dancer! Well, normally I wouldn't go for the Belly Dancer, but in this case she was quite skillful and entertaining.
This would be a fun place to go for an evening of entertainment.
Dress Code: Casual, stylish or not, seemed to be acceptable. In fact, the manner of dress didn't seem matter to anyone at all.

Most people don't bring a camera along when they go out to eat, unless they have special guests and want to capture the moment, or unless they are a VT addict and want to add to their pages. In this case, both reasons apply. Almost everyone at our table had a camera ready to capture the moment and the food.more
The food arrived and soon after, dramatic music introduced the Belly Dancer. Belly Dancers at a restaurant is not really a local custom. It is the fact that neighborhood eateries often times are creative in keeping the people coming and Rachada seemed to be especially interested in drawing in new customers and turning them into regulars.more
Wrapping a red scarf around the head of the "host" is not a local custom. However, cartering to the host, making sure he/she is pleased with the service and attention is a local custom. Here, Keith is shown the proper way to wrap and tie the headdress. His big smile shows he is pleased with the attention.more
The entertainer did redeem herself and with a well expressed joke, actually envolved the other half of her audience. I'm sorry I can't remember the specific joke or trick she played, but you can tell from Dino's reaction, it was hilarious!! Keith enjoyed it as well, so wasn't offensive at all.more
Not only was Rachada off the beaten path, the whole town of Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs was off the beaten path and it was a good place to hold a VT Meeting.
As you can see, the intimate group included Supun, "Supune," Keith, "TinKan," Linda, "lmkluque," (top row,) Dion, "Dionosaur," Ronnie, (Keith's Mom,) and Nancy, "Goner" (bottom row.)
We had a great time and though the idea of being entertained by a Belly Dancer was not a draw for me, it turned out to be quite impressive and funny too.
This photo was taken either by me or by Keith, "TinKan." Actually it was taken by the waitress with either my camera or Keith's camera. I can't tell which one, so must give KEITH credit for sharing his photo with me.
