This is a must stop for all visitors to Yosemite through the south gate. We stopped here and were excited to get the information we got. Even though it is a 24 hour information center, information clerks who you can speak with inside the center are only available between 9-4 pm.
We bought an annual park pass and got brochures and maps about the park's activities. The clerks were pleasant and well informed.
We really enjoyed the history and the ride on this old fashioned steam driven train. I found this when I was surfing the google video website. I just typed in Oakhurst CA and the chamber of commerce put out a video that shows all kinds of things to do in the Oakhurst area. It is worth seeing. On Friday nites there is even a dinner train ride during the summer months.
In the mountain community of Oakhurst ( Fresno Flats in the 1800's) the thrilling days of the gold country of the late 1800's is captured at the Fresno Flats Historical Park. Self-guided tour pamphlets allow you to follow and read about each building and relic of the gold country's past.
This is a donation only park with a wonderful gift shop with museum of the way we were in the late 1800's. Worth the visit, just to see the prices of items of the late 1800's.
