Oakland's Chinatown is very different from the one in San Francisco. It's an authentic, working-class Chinese-American neighborhood, NOT a tourist trap. In fact, very few tourists go there at all. Nearly everyone there is Asian. And it's near downtown, Jack London Square, and other attractions.

Oakland Chinatown isn't like SF's Chinatown. It is still a shopping and meeting area for newly arrived immigrants. As a Chinese myself, I can't say it is a really represent the China we are having now. I might say it is a 1980s version of China, or recent rural part of China. So, if you stop by Chinatown, don't expect this is a mini verison of China nowadays.
If you visit Oakland chinatown by car, Park your car in the Parking garage at Webster and 9th street which is $1.25/hr, whereas street parking cost $1.25/hr as well

Oaklands Chinatown seems to be smaller and a little less conspicuous than SFs, but it is a good place to walk, visit, eat and shop.
They have really good dim sum in some of the restaurants (e.g. Restaurant Peony @ 388 9th Street) and interesting markets for shopping.

Oakland's Chinatown is great. It has just as must atmosphere as SF's Chinatown without all of the tourist rip-offs. It is not very big, but it is exactly the low-key feel that makes it so appealing. I particularly loved the little shops that sell dim sum separately: egg custard tarts, shrimp dumplings and other goodies - cheap too!!! It was also fun having a browse through the nearby thrift stores!

Oakland’s Chinatown is the 4th largest Asian-American shopping district in the U.S. The area was first developed by Chinese immigrant gold miners in the 1800’s. The vast selection of Asian and ethnic restaurants makes Chinatown a popular destination for residents and visitors.

Not as large as San Francisco's but still worth a visit. Even the gas stations have an Asian flare!

Oakland: the other side of the Bay
