What does it mean marina? It's a small port that is used for pleasure rather than trade, often with hotels, restaurants and bars. Hmm... it seems that there is no one exact word in my language for marina.
The marina in Oceanside looks very, very lovely. Great place to eat, walk around and to watch sunsets !
The historic Oceanside Pier is a prized community resource as well as a monument to its citizens' persistence in seeing that a pier remains a part of its oceanfront recreational facilities. You will see names of these resident contributors carved into the railings on the bridge.
While a fishing license is required for surf fishing on the beach, no license is needed for fishing off the pier.
Oceanside's Harbor is a mecca for sportfishing, whale watching, boating and other water-oriented activities. The Marina inside the harbor has sloops ranging in length from 25-51 feet. Transient moorings and limited RV beach camping are available. Harbor Days is a scheduled annual event held the 3rd weekend in September.
Oceanside has a wide, sandy beach 3.5 miles long. The number of surfers present was a good indication that this is a good location for the sport. The beach was pretty deserted in April but I'd like to return in the summer.
The pier is quite large jutting into the Pacific Ocean. If you're walking along the coast you can't miss it. Half way down there are restrooms and a bait and tackle shop and snacks/postcards/drinks for sale. At the end of the pier is a restaurant - Ruby's. You'll see many people fishing and a wonderful view of the surfers, beach and coastline with the mountains as a backdrop.
Roughly a 30 minute drive from Oceanside- The activities one expects in a big city but pristine none the less.
