The area at the Harbor, Oceanside Marina, is a cute little village style section. That is were I've spent most of my time. The Oceanside Pier is a popular spot for fishing, but you can also walk down it and enjoy the environment on your way to Ruby's Diner. Ruby's is a 50's themed diner and fun for the whole family.
Other things to see or do while in Oceanside are, Old Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, one of the Twenty-One Missions along California's coast. The Oceanside Museum of Art, the California Surf Museum. and if you're into birds, the The Buena Vista Audubon is worth checking out.
Though I like to spend my time near the water at the Harbor there are several trails for hiking for those who like to explore nature.
Oceanside's recreational opportunities are geared to fit every lifestyle. The city boasts three golf courses, numerous tennis courts and over six miles of beachfront roadway just perfect for jogging, biking or rollerblading. Known as a mecca for watersports, the 260 slip Harbor has a convenient boat launch area and offers services for boat, kayak and jetski rentals. Helgren's Sportfishing Inc. operates daily sportfishing charters going out of the Harbor, and also offers Whale Watching Tours from December through March. Try surf fishing along the coastline, or simply drop a line off the end of the 1,972-foot pier and wait for the fish to bite. Oceanside also hosts numerous amateur and professional surfing contests through out the year.
