    S-21? What's that?

    S-21 TRAFFIC SIGN

The main south-north road in Oceanside is marked S-21 on traffic signs and maps.

Hmm... it seems that nobody knows this strange numbers: S-21 but everyone knows the name Highway 101 = Pacific Coastal Highway. So, better do not ask locals for S-21.

    From my friend David (newyorkerman):
Highways are maintained by the local government, the city or the county. So obviously they prefer to label the Coastal Highway by their own local designation, which might be a different road that only overlaps with the highway in that area.
    Thank you David :-)

    Expensive gas?

    GAS PRICES IN OCEANSIDE

California is the state of the most expensive gas (gasoline = petrol) in the continental USA, am I wrong?
Oceanside itself offers hmm... quite expensive gas as well (especially at most gas stations along Pacific Coastal Highway 101).

Look at the prices of gas (per US gallon) at my picture taken on 12 April 2003:
    Reg. - $2.17
    Spec. - $2.31
    Sup.+ - $2.41
    Isn't it expensive?

Hmm... in comparison to Europe (approx. almost $1 per liter) it's unbelievable... cheap. Prices per liter:
    Reg. - $0.57
    Spec. - $0.61
    Sup.+ - $0.64

    .

    Slow down!

    OCEANSIDE

Exceeding the posted speed limit can get you a ticket and create an inconvenience. So, watch the traffic signs!

The top speed limit on freeway I-5 in Oceanside area is 65mph, out on the "open-road," like in areas past the cities, the speed limit goes up to 70 mph.
The speed limit on the Pacific Coastal Highway inside city limits is usually 35 mph, on streets it's usually 25 mph as you can see on my picture.

    From Chris (balfor):
Driving over the speed limit - How fast you can go depends on the area. When I lived in Virginia you could do 4 miles per hour over the speed limit with no problem and it was pretty much up to the mood of the policeman between 5 and 10 miles over. More than that and you were getting a ticket no matter who was on duty. Here in Atlanta, if you aren't doing at LEAST 10 miles an hour over the speed limit, you are blocking traffic because you are going too slow. In the 55 MPH zones, the normal speed is between 65 and 70 with the police not looking at you twice if you are driving 70. It makes me wonder how fast some of these people are going to get pulled over!
    Thank you Chris!
