Mission San Diego de Alcala is an active neighborhood parish located at:

    10818 San Diego Mission Road
    San Diego, CA 92108-2429

The Mission is also open to the public. There is a nominal donation requested, $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children under twelve. This donation is paid at the Gift Shop
    which is open 9:00 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. daily.

Along with religious articles, the gift shop sells some interesting books and pamplets on the subject of the Mission and about the history of the San Diego area as well.

There isn't much to see at the archaeological site on Church grounds, but over the years the dig has developed and a foundation is now visible.

A self-guided audio tour is offered for a small charge for those who are interested in specific dates and detailed facts of history. The tape is not really necessary to enjoy the general historical significance found at the Mission.

Time needed to spend here wouldn't be much more than an hour or so--unless you want to include a mass as well as a tour.
