When working in Oxnard and staying Camarillo, one of my favorite things to do when driving to work in the morning was to put the convertible top down and let the fresh aroma of the fields help me coffee wake me up. Sometimes this would backfire when they were applying fertilizer. Just drive in Eastern Oxnard, down Pleasant Valley or Los Posas,...more
Oxnard Beach is located off of Harbor. Open from Dawn till Dusk, park here and enjoy a picnic or a stroll down the beach- I would drive through each day and try to capture the sunset before dinner. Amenities featured at this Oxnard beach include barbeque areas, volleyball courts, a covered picnic area and a path for inline skating and jogging....more
One of the best things to do, and FREE too, is beach combing. If your out and about in the early mornings you can discover various things the great pacific ocean has churned up. From seashells to driftwood, and maybe a message in a bottle from a lost soul in the pacific. Parts of shipwrecks have been recorded washing up on the beaches in...more
Sitting a few miles off the coast just before it turns north for Big Sur and San Francisco, the Channel Islands are a strange departure from the crowded natures of neighboring Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. The only way to access any of them is by boat, and Island Packers is the only company licensed by the park service to take tourists out to...more
Whenever we have out of town visitors we like to take them on a nice little harbor boat cruise. The boats are rented from the Channel Islands harbor (behind the italian restaurant and down the dock). One hour is JUST enough time to cruise the harbor pretty quickly, if you want to take your time and explore, I suggest renting the boat for 2 hours....more
Heritage Square is an entire city block of restored 1876 to 1912 buildings that were prevalent in the shaping of Oxnard's history. I remember this place fondly, back in the days when Mr. Sal himself would stop by the table to make sure you were enjoying your meal. Mr. Sal is gone now, but his family remains true to his memory and vision. Sal's Mexican Inn always had (in my never-to-be-humble opinion) the best Mexican food in Oxnard. And in a town that has a predominately...more
Um, not much.First off all the service is totally confusing...you order entrees at the counter, but drinks and appetizers at your table. On some days, it changes. Only drinks at the table, all food ordered at the counter. The first time around tried a shrimp cocktail and a special of the house "Oysters Diablo".The second visit, with recommendations...more
Cabo is Mexican Seafood at its best. I try something new at Cabo each time I visit, and I've always been pleased. The service is amazing at Cabo, we had a company function here with 25 guests and one server took care of us all without flaw. the only bad part about Cabo is the parking- at lunch and dinner it can get tight. Try the back alley behind...more
Yolandas is one of the more Americanizd Mexican restaurants as far as cuisine goes, but very good all the same. The menu is very familiar to me as this is what East Coast Mexican looks like! I had the Enchiladas and loved them, and as this is near where I worked I would stop in from time to time for a negra modelo and some chips and salsa. A good...more
El Pollo Norteno is not Taco Bell. Oxnard has plenty of authentic Mexican food, and this was one of my favorites. With 2 locations on either end of Oxnard Boulevard, EPN offers a simple menu with fabulous taste- I could never finish the burrito they are soooo filling- with the tri-tip being my favorite! Stop in and check it out! Tri-Tip or mixed...more
BJ's is the only place I found in Oxnard that has somewhat of a normal nightlife heartbeat. I would go here to start my night off on Friday nights, and then move on to Ventura to get some decent nightlife. BJ's specialty is their Chicago-style deepdish pizzas, as well as the variety of in-house brews. I'd recommend BJ's to anyone from the East...more
There are NO decent nightspots, at least in my view, in the Oxnard area. Not even close in comparison with the madness in Hollywood, Santa Monica, L.A., or even Ventura or Aguora Hills. so this means you'll have to drive. Please plan ahead and designate a driver if you are staying in Oxnard and want to go out- you'll have to go drive a distance to get to a real scene!
One way to beat the heavy traffic of Southern California is to take the train more specifically, the Amtrak train. You can take it for short distances such as a day trip to Santa Barbara (Pacific Surfliner route) or for overnight trips to San Juan Capistrano, La Jolla, Del Mar or San Diego, Or take a 2 day ride up the coast (The Coast Starlight...more

Here are the rules of the water ways. If you're in a kayak or paddle boat, all boats bigger than you have the 'Right of Way' like these boats.
One should be careful when getting into a kayak. Leaning over could cause you and the kayak to flip over. Notice how Jose from Guatemala is balancing his weight evenly.
At 838 West 5th Street in Oxnard, California, there stands a senior citizen housing complex today, called Casa Merced. However, in the early part of the 20th century it was a hospital with the strange name "Lying-In Hospital and Sanitorium." In the lobby of the present complex is a small but interesting museum fro which you can learn about the...more
