Lifeguards on the beach daily throughout the year, are ever watchful, but when you're swimming and feel the water tug at you slightly, get out and move to another location. Rip tides can pull you in and tire you out before you realize it.
Most of the time there are flags posted to warn of rip tide areas. Sometimes you can even see them in the water by the way it swirls differently.
Unique Suggestions: If a friend has been caught by a rip tide, inform the lifeguard, who is trained for this type of rescue. If you don't see a lifeguard near, dial 911 and they will contact the lifeguard.
Fun Alternatives: Before visiting Pacific Beach find out about Rip Tides and be prepared. Usually an adult doesn't have to worry if you are in very shallow water, but children might not be able to resist the tug. So be especially careful with the little ones.
