Las Casuelas: Mexican
This nicely decorated Mexican restaurant is obviously popular with locals and visitors alike...at least judging by the long lines on a Saturday night. We liked the atmosphere with its open air dining, colorful bougainvilla growing along the outside walls, and a live music band keeping the mood festive. The food was good for the most part, but the over 1 hour wait was terrible. They told us 45 minutes and we waited at least an hour and a half to get seated.
Favorite Dish: I forget the spanish name of this dish but its a plate of several large shrimp wrapped in bacon with a chili sauce on the side. It also includes Spanish style rice and tortilla soup. It's very good if you don't mind paying $20 for the plate.
La Casuelas Terraza: Average Mexican Restaurant
This is a popular restaurant in downtown Palm Springs. My family and I dined here in January, 2006. We enjoy Mexican restaurants and eat at them wherever we expect good, authentic Mexican food - Arizona, LA, San Diego, etc. I was disappointed in that the food was average. Nothing special. I had a pork filled burrito-type meal that was different but just OK.
The surroundings were what you get at most Mexican restaurants. The margarita's were good as was the salsa and chips.
I'd recommend this restaurant for dependable Mexican cuisine. But nothing out of the ordinary.

Las Casuelas Terraza: Las Casuelas Terraza - A Fun Atmosphere!
A fun place with a definite party ambience. If you don't make reservations, expect a loooong wait! They are always totally packed! They have a huge bar area and patio dining!
Favorite Dish: Typical Mexican fare ranging from cheese enchiladas to nachos to chimichangas. People come here more for the atmosphere than the food itself.
Las Casuelas Terraza: Las Casuelas Terraza
Las Casuelas Terraza is one of the most popular and interesting restaurants in Palm Springs and one place that you must eat while you're visiting the area. The restaurant is packed at dinnertime, particularly on the weekends. You really must make a reservation (unless you want to wait an hour and 20 minutes, as we did). One good tip to know: this restaurant tends to be very busy between 6-8pm, but the crowds taper off after 8:00. If you eat on the later side, you shouldn't have such a hard time getting a table.
This restaurant is very large. The bar area has a band on weekends-- sit here if you like loud music, but ask for a table on the other end of the restaurant if you don't.
The restaurant is decorated in a Spanish style and has lovely murals on some of the walls. You'll see lots of Mexican art, wrought iron and even hanging pinatas.
Favorite Dish: The margaritas are very tasty at Las Casuelas Terraza. I highly recommend the blended strawberry margarita.
The dishes here tend to be on the large side and are very filling. I ordered an appetizer, the Black Bean Pizza with Grilled Chicken and it was large enough for a whole meal. It was also delicious and I recommend it!
The combination plates are great and are served with lots of rice and beans. I also recommend the nachos-- they are made with delicious, fresh cheese and an assortment of toppings.

Las Casuelas Terraza: Timeless Mexican favorites with innovative dishes
Since it's opening in 1958, this lively restaurant is always loaded with locals who love to show out-of-town guests one of the most atmospheric spots in the desert. It has a palapa (built to add outdoor dining and entertainment to an already sumptuous restaurant scene) which entices folks to the palm tree-lined alfresco bar to sip rare tequilas and dance to the music of hip bands.
Favorite Dish: As soon as you enter the restaurant, the waiter brings a warm basket of tortilla chips (along with hot and spicy salsa). For dinner, I would recommend the Carnitas Platter which includes succulent chunks of pork, mexican rice, cabbage, lettuce, tomatoes, olives, ranchero sauce, guacamole and flour tortillas.
