    Walking

by HELEN Updated Feb 17, 2010

If you are staying at a hotel, you will most likely be right downtown Palm Springs or very close to it. I would recommend to leave your car at the hotel and just walk everywhere. This town isn't very big, you can very well get to everywhere you'd like to go by foot. Almost every hotel in the area offers bicycle rentals, which may be a good option to ride around and explore the town.

    To Palm Springs from LAX

by crewrower Updated Oct 24, 2007

If you're trying to get to Palm Springs from Los Angeles International Airport as cheaply as possible, note that it is not cheap! The direct way would be to take an airport limo or similar ride for about $200/car. You could could also go Greyhound bus, but currently there is no service directly from LA to Palm Springs. From the airport you would need to take a share ride shuttle for about $15-17 to the Greyhound station, then take a bus to either Banning (town before) or Indio (town after) Palm Springs. From the Banning Greyhound station (shack), there is a "ride special" to Palm Springs. It's a taxi for $30 (one person) or $40 (two people), slightly more for 3 people. If you need to go anywhere other than downtown Palm Springs it will cost more like $40 for one person. I would suggest you call ahead to confirm that this "ride special" still exists (BBC Taxi, (951) 849-9138; otherwise hailing a taxi in a place like Banning is impossible. You'd have to call for one, and on the meter a ride from Banning to Palm Springs would be $90.

Taking the shuttle to Greyhound ($15), Greyhound from LA to Banning ($25), and taxi from Banning to Palm Springs for one person ($30) would be $70. Thus if you are traveling with at least one other person from LAX to Palm Springs, and don't want to rent a car of your own, you should seriously consider hiring a car to get you there, despite the high price of $200-$250.

    Celebrity Tour

by joanj Updated Oct 4, 2007

Take a Celebrity Tour Bus, to see most of Palm Springs, the company we went with had a 1 hr. mainly to see the famous homes etc., or a 2 1/2 hr. which includes the famous homes, plus suburbs outside of down town Palm Springs.

The picture shown here is the later Bob Hopes house.
