GORDON BIERSCH BREWERY RESTAURANT: A FINE BREW

  • Good, lively atmosphere. Friendly & helpful waitstaff. The decor of dark wook & a front seating section with French doors that open up in the summeritme make it enjoyable to eat here.
I don`t drink beer so I didn`t try any of their brewery selections but the food was good!!

Try to Moroccan Style Lamb or the Seared Ahi Tuna. Both are delicious!

Gordon Biersch: Good food and good beer

  • One of the best brewery restaurant chains I went into in the states. The beer is excellent - especially the Marzen. And the food well presented and tasty in managable portions.
I prefered the one in San Jose because of the courtyard and live jazz sessions but the Palo Alto venue is also well worth a visit

I love ribs and here did not disappoint. great BBQ sauce.
Mind you I also remember having some very good prawns the last time I visited.

Mango Caribbean Restaurant and Bar: Next best thing to being there...
  • Satisfaction:

  • Mango is a Caribbean Restaurant that makes you feel as if you've stepped into Jamaica for just a couple of hours. We stopped in on a Friday evening and within thirty minutes, the restaurant was packed. It seemed to be a place where a lot of groups go out for dinner as there were a number of tables pushed together for larger parties.

I enjoyed a cold sangria while Joe ordered the largest Red Stripe I've ever seen. We ordered the Spicy pepper shrimp with fried plantain ($8.50) for an appetizer. The shrimp were small, but seasoned well. The fried plantain was excellent. A small mound of basmati rice held the dish together.

For dinner Joe ordered the jerk chicken ($21) and I selected the marinated oxtail ($14.50). It was a lot of food. There was a generous helping of meat on both plates. In addition, we each had sides of red beans and rice and lightly sauteed veggies. It was too much to finish...but I tried!

To top off the entire dinner, we had great service. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The entire staff seemed to be very on top of everything and it looked like everyone was having a good time. I would certainly dine here again.

Hours: Open for Lunch and Dinner, 11am to 10pm, Sunday - Wednesday, and 11am to 11pm Thursday - Saturday.

Try anything with a side of red beans and rice...and of course a cold sangria!

    P.F. Chang's: Good Chinese

  • P.F. Chang's is a good choice for a restaurant when you are tired or lazy to think about the portions, and just want something tasty. The selection itself is huge, as usual in Chinese restaurants, and everything is tasty, as again usual in Chinese restaurants. Nothing is spectacular, though.

The restaurant itself is large, and as most chain restaurants, lacking personal touch. The service is once again excellent, and the food comes pretty swiftly. Price is not bad either. Somehow I see having take away a better choice than hanging in the restaurant, maybe it is the non-personality of the dining hall combined with the mall surroundings.

UNIVERSITY COFFEE CAFE: COFFEE & MORE

  • Great mix of people of all ages. Delicious coffee aroma. Very busy & packed with people (some standing). High ceilings so you don`t feel claustrophobic or closed in. There`s a coffee bar with seating where all the drinks are made.
(Their business card says that they also have full service dining for lunch & dinner, a Health Smart Cafe, & a juice bar)

I had the white chocolate mocha & some kind of mocha pastry cake dessert. YUM!!! My friend had the hot apple cider (we`re not big coffee people!). We didn`t spend that much time here as my friend had to catch the last train home, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself here in this coffeehouse. I didn`t feel rushed to leave, even though we sat at the bar. I felt like I could have stayed for 3 hrs & not have someone come over & tell me my time was up (except perhaps those standing. ha ha!).

WORLD WRAPPS: A WRAP WITH A TWIST

  • This is a West coast chain eatery with locations in Washington & California.
They have more than wraps here, including soups & bento boxes. You can opt to have a wrap or have the ingredients in the wrap over a bed of rice (which is what I did).
The prices are good & the mix of ingredients unique. People of all ages come here but I saw alot Stanford Univ students as well.

I ordered the Samurai Salmon (salmon, avocado, daikon sprouts, nori, cucumbers, & scallions). The best thing about this was the soy & wasabi vinaigrette! What a punch!!
I also had a taste of the Thai Lemongrass Soup & the Caribbean Sole (this served with a mango salsa & ginger slaw). These were good too!
