The Levitt Pavilion Pasadena: Free Summertime Concerts in the Park

by GracesTrips Written Jul 17, 2009

This is a wonderful way to spend an evening when it's hot. Bring a picnic and listen to some great, free music! There's plenty of parking (you will have to pay for it). There is even an area off to the side of the stage for dancing.

Check out the website to see who is playing and when. Most of the entertainers have their own website links such as myspace where you can listen to what they might be performing.

    http://www.redwhitebluezz.com/: Music, Wine & Food!

by GracesTrips Written Nov 26, 2008

We have come here several times to eat and drink. But come later in the evening, towards the back of the restaurant (literally - a back entrance) there is a small club atmosphere with a live jazz band playing. You can order meals there, too. They also have some great wine flights it you would like to do some wine tasting. It's a good idea to make reservations if you can. Tables are limited. See my restaurant tip as well.

Neomeze: Tapas Bar and Social Spot

by GracesTrips Written May 30, 2008

Ultra modern design, the tapas are very yummy and expensive. Wine selection is very good. Before 9pm, you can relax in the bar or in their "tapas" lounge with small tables. Happy Hour is Monday through Friday between 4:30pm-7pm - 50% off all drinks.

After 9pm, the kitchen closes and the music is turned up LOUD! The bar area is standing room only. The place transforms into a place to be seen and chatting is all the rage. Mostly young adults seem to be hanging at this time.

Twin Palms: Disco Fever in Pasadena

by GracesTrips Written May 30, 2008

Twin Palms is a restaurant. But in evening at about 10pm it transforms into a discoteque. A live band is usually performing. You can visit their website to see who the performing entertainment is for the night. I believe there is no cover charge. I have never paid one. It's a large place with plenty of room for dancing. The dining and entertainment area is outdoors under a covered tent like canopy with outdoor heaters for when it's cold.

Also listed on my restaurant tips.

Lucky Baldwins: West Coast's Best Beer Selection

    by fdrich29 Written Oct 29, 2006

I did some research before my trip out to Los Angeles and knew this was a place I needed to visit. After going to Anaheim to witness my beloved Red Sox get beat by the home team I decided to head up to Pasadena to check this place out.

Getting to Pasadena was easy...finding this place...much harder than it should have been. I must have driven past it 3 times before I found it.

I went around the side as the front entrance was closed and walked in through the patio tables into the bar. A few high, round tables across from the bar, plenty of throwback beer memorobilia and half dozen or so seats at the bar. For all intents and purposes it looked like a dive...the most beautiful dive I have ever seen.

The bar, and everything behind the bar looked like controled chaos. A fridge full of beer to the left, tap handles to the right, trophies and keepsakes lined the back of the bar.

I pulled up to the bar and struck up a conversation with the bartender who had been there since the place opened, or just after. He was a great guy who really knew his beer, the bartender's bartender if you will, and it bothers me greatly that I do not remember his name because for the three hours I was there he took very good care of me, introduced me to some local Pasadena beers and even pulled out his only bottle of 120 out of the fridge and gave it to me.

The selection was outstanding, the perfect mix of local brews and national micros, as well as the Belgians any respectable establishment should carry. I didn't think any place else could rival Anam Cara back home, but I have to be honest, this place did.

Aside from two semi-pro baseball players who were drinking away their injuries and making fools of themselves, the rest of the patrons were quite down with the beer scene and I had great beer conversation for the entire night, was given plenty of pointers, tips and told where to find the best beer for the best prices nearby my hotel in Woodland Hills.

Yardhouse: Nachos and Beer -- what could be better?

by happyalways Updated Nov 5, 2004

Although it was only about one year ago that my friends and I happened upon the Yardhouse it has come to hold many of our favorite things. Some of us go for the half price nachos (only available after 11 pm), others join us for the "best beer ever" (aka Lost Coast Great White although Yardhouse has a plethora of beers on tap, far more than we have yet been able to sample), and still more come for the friendly bartenders. I myself enjoy all of these aspects and believe most people would enjoy them as well!

Laemmle Theatres - Playhouse 7 and One Colorado: For Film Lovers....

by VdV Written Sep 5, 2004

Pasadena has many movie theatres. Some show the Hollywood blockbuster films. For those who prefer independent, arthouse and foreign films, luckily Pasadena has a number of fine arthouse theatres.

    Two of the best are:
    * Laemmle Playhouse 7 (as shown in this photo)
    * and the Laemmle One Colorado (located in Old Town Pasadena.)

    There is also:
    * Academy 6 (a bit worn, but they play the second-run films that have long left the bigger theatres)

    * and a short drive away is the Rialto Theatre (in nearby South Pasadena, but only single-screen.)

So, if you are in the mood to see a movie, forget the Hollywood blockbusters--see some fine films at the local Laemmle theatres.

Mills Alley: A gathering place within Old Town Pasadena

by VdV Written Mar 21, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The area within Mills Alley in Old Town Pasadena is a lively place, both day and night. In a square area with connecting pedestrian alleyways, there are several restaurants (Gordon Biersch, Johnny Rockets, Il Fornaio, etc.) and shops (Crate & Barrel, Origins, Papyrus, etc.) and a Laemmle (arthouse/foreign/independent film) multiplex. In the evenings, there is usually live music in the square, and it's a great place just to hang out and people watch. There are also interesting sculptures and other artwork dotting the area.

Dress Code: California casual of course!

    Crocodile Cafe: Music and drinks

by TinKan Written Jan 10, 2004

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The cafe has CD music and a walk up bar as well as tables for eating and drinking.
You will find the drinks a bit pricey. Three vodka and cranberries came to $18.75 which I think was a bit much.

Music was good and there are tables outside on the sidewalk with heaters for those chilly nights.

All in all it is a nice place
