JPL, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, one of the most famous landmarks of Pasadena is now closed to the public. We were able to enter the gates long enough to take this picture and then head back out by the security guards.

At one time, there was quite a bit of information that was available to the public, but now it is all closed off :(

    Metered Parking
  • Tip Rating:

  • If you parked at a meter, make sure to return by the time the meter runs out. THERE IS NO GRACE PERIOD! The meter police will even wait at your meter anticipating it to run out before you return and you will receive a parking ticket!

Other curb parking rules - stay within the lines marked on the ground. If you park too far away from the curb, you will get a parking ticket for this as well. Some cities are less restrictive but not in Pasadena!

And, whatever you do, do not make an illegal U-turn on Colorado Blvd. This is a big no no and a hefty ticket!

Always, wear your seatbelt in California! Passengers in a vehicle with a valid license will receive a ticket onto themselves. If your passengers do not have a valid license then the driver will receive the ticket for them.

    Afternoon tea reservations

  • I had originally planned to head to Pasadena on Sunday with Kat so we could have afternoon tea. The first place I called, Scarlet Tea Room, had a large private party on Sunday. When I was there on Friday, I stopped by Chado Tea Room to inquire if they had anything open, they said no but that they would call me if it did. They did call, regrettably it was to tell me that they still had no availability.

Apparently tea is a very popular activity in Pasadena so if you have your heart set on it, make reservations well in advance and preferably not for Sunday when they seem to take a lot of group bookings.

    Dining Closes at 9 PM

  • Many restaurants will close midweek at 9PM. Mijares has two locations and good mexican food but will close at 9:00 spot on. Many other restaurants are like this as well and few are open past 10PM. Wolfe Burgers on Lake Ave is open late most nights and has very good burgers, beer and a 70's atmosphere.

If you drive in Pasadena, please beware of the tricky ramps. Many entrances on the freeway require split second reactions. Feel sorry for the begineer drivers learning in Pas! Don't say that you weren't forewarn!

Pictured here is a more open stretch of highway in Pasadena.
