If you have wanted to be environmentally concious in your choice of eateries, here is a list of restaurants that you can choose from. See the website link below to find the list of hotels. Please write tips in each of the cities for the restaurants that you visit.
here is an explaination of what the certification will meanfrom the Thimmakka.org site:
Thimmakka Certified Green Restaurants started out with the aim of conducting outreach to ethnic restaurants and quickly transmogrified to Thimmakka Certified Green Restaurants. Today Thimmakka Certified Green Restaurants [TCGR] conducts culturally and economically appropriate environmental outreach to Indian, Pakistani, Persian, Burmese, Afghani, Thai, Vietnamese, Ethiopian, Mediterranean, African -American and Chinese restaurants and bakeries.
TCGR conducts outreach to 30 ethnic restaurants in Alameda County in the San Francisco Bay Area. TCGR plans to conduct outreach to 180 restaurants in six counties in SF Bay Area (Alameda, Marin, Santa Clara, San Francisco, Sonoma and Contra Costa).
Why Restaurants? Restaurants are the greatest consumers of energy per square foot than any other industry in the U.S. They are also the largest producers of recyclable and compostable solid waste (generally 83% of their solid waste is divertable). Restaurants are very high consumers of water due to their high customer traffic, and large scale cooking requirements. They are significant producers of grease and oil that pollute stormwater, which injures fish and can lead to beach closures.

As of 18 May 2005 Casa De Pico will no longer be found in Old Town! However, two new locations are planned. Summer 2005 it will open up in the Grossmont Shopping Center along Grossmont Drive and in the summer of 2006 Casa De Pico will open in the New location of Bazaar Del Mundo which will be at the Old Police Station near Seaport Village (haven't gotten to this one yet)!
Have always enjoyed going to Casa De Pico in the past and on a recent trip went to the new location at Grossmont Shopping Center. Although I miss the old location in Old Town...the one in Grossmont Center still has the same beautiful and festive decor and the food is great as usual!! Diane still has her Bazaar Del Mundo for shopping...which is relocated just outside Old Town State Park. There is also a restaurant there attached to the Bazaar Del Mundo complex, but I prefer the Casa De Pico at Grossmont Center.
Favorite Dish: Fish Tacos...and of course the chips/salsa Margaritas!!!

Favorite Dish: Well, being on a low budget I was eating at different fastfood-places most of the time (coming from Europe I was amazed at how many different ones there were!!) and they weren't that exciting of course, but one dish typical for S.F. really worth trying is the 'so-and-so chow' (sorry, I forgot the name, but it's famous, you'll find it easily), sold near Fisherman's Wharf, it's a creamy soup with shrimps or so, served in a big sour roll. It's cheap, very delicious and the sand in it indicates fresh ingredients!
You can also get ALL KINDS of wonderful fresh fruit in California - mangos, avocados, oranges etc.

Okay, so in the UK we have McDonalds, we have burger King, and every now and then a Wimpy (rememebr them?), but nothing prepares you for the US. If like me you are a fast food afficionado - be loud and proud, dont be ashamed, I like good food too, I lived in Provence - then you'll be in your ELEMENT! Carl's Junior definitely caught my attention, as did the legendary Taco Bell. But dont forget Jack in the Box, Wendys, and all the others. You will never be short of great fast food in this state - just make sure your car has cup holders!
Favorite Dish: The Louisiana chicken burger from Carls Junior is mega - have with Curly Fries and a supersize diet coke and you'll be reliving my favourite diet!

In San Francisco, the food is marvelous. Eat in Chinatown. Eat at Fisherman's Wharf. The restaurants used to be great. I assume they still are.
Favorite Dish: I loved abalone, perhaps because in those days we couldn't get it in the east.

There are many good restaurants in LA and surrounding areas. Most of the trendy restaurants will be in the Beverly Hills area, which offer pretty good food and good atmosphere.. My favorites in that area are the Crustacean, the Stinking Rose... For a romantic date, many restaurants off of PCH are very nice: Gladstones, Geoffrey's in Malibu.. and after you're done a nice drive on PCH is always nice once you get past the Malibu area...There are also some good restaurants in the Santa Monica area: I like Rebecca's for its great Mexican food and drinks.. They make a killer margarita...
