Open Air Market
Favorite thing: Wandering around the city, i came across these market stalls, selling all sorts of fruit, vegetables and cut flowers. The market stalls here are located in the picturesque Cesar E Chavez Plaza, corner of 9th and J Streets.
Having played hostess to a few...
Favorite thing: Having played hostess to a few out-of-towners in my day, I'd say that an absolute must-see when visiting Sac is East Sacramento. Strolling up and down the 'Fab Forties' is something that very often conjures up images of idyllic nostalgia, either real or imagined. Periodically, usually around a major holiday such as Christmas or Easter, Sacred Heart Church sponsors an event where selected houses are opened to the public for viewing. It's become quite an attraction with both locals and tourists alike.
Fondest memory: The trees. Especially in the fall, after a particularly wet season. The leaves explode with color and cover the streets and lawns and sidewalks. The way Sacramento smells after a rain shower, or right before one. The way it smells in the early morning of summer... Those trees are so fragrant, but allergic people beware!
Just walk around. Grab a cup...
Favorite thing: Just walk around. Grab a cup of joe (or iced joe during the summer) and stroll around. The city is beautiful.
Fondest memory: Sacramento is unique becasue of the trees. We have over 5 million trees in down town alone, so when you are walking or driving down the streets in Sac, you forget that you are in the middle of a big city. The canopy keeps it cooler, brighter, quiter, like you are in a wonderful tunnel. It is an autumnal fireworks display when the leaves start changing in the fall and it is soothing oasis from the scorching sun during the hot summer months.
Enjoy the outdoors!
Fondest memory: A typical day during our stay was to wake up at 6am, go for an hour run, meet the team for practice at 7:30am, row for 2 hours, get breakfast, shower, relax for a bit, shop or tour, lunch, go for another hour-long trail run, mountain bike for an hour, go to another 2 hour practice, have some dinner and ice cream and then chill in our rooms and sometimes throw some ab-work in...yes, we were crazy (not to mention in great shape)--but it was sooo much fun--I felt like a little kid again!
