When longing for a Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza in the San Francisco and South Bay Areas, your best bet will be at BJ's and the nearest to San Francisco will be here at the Tanforan Mall in San Bruno and at the Bridgepointe Parkway in San Mateo. The also have branches in the North Bay at San Ramon and at the east Bay areas of Newark and Concord. Bj's is the only dining place that serves Deep Dish pizzas in the Bay area (off course Lou Malnati's and Pizzeria Uno and Giordano's Pizza of Chicago tastes better but you need to fly to Chicagoland to get it). Besides the assorted deep dish pizzas, BJ's serves a variety of Pastas, Salads, Sandwhiches, Rice Meals, Bar Chow and more, and don't forget their wonderful Microbrewed Beers and Ale!

Favorite Dish: A lot, but a typical 16" Deep Dish Pizza costs $ 25, pastas at $ 20 and up, A Pitcher of Microbrewed Beer or Ale at $ 18, nachos and burritos at $ 15 and up.

    Hours:

    Mon-Thu 11 am - 12 am

    Fri 11 am - 1 am

    Sat 10 am - 1 am

    Sun 10 am - 12 am

One of the many expanding exports from the Philippines, This Filipino Fast Food Burger Joint has made inroads here in the California area due to a large Filipino and Filipino-American prescence and is one of the 26 branches along the Mainland USA. They serve filipinized burgers that are soft and are mixed with eggs and filipino staples like palabok, Halo-Halo, Pearl Coolers (Ironically, you cannot find Halo Halo or Pearl Coolers at Jolibee Outlets in the philippines).

Favorite Dish: a lot for the homesick fellow like the Fried Chicken meal (they don't have the chicken barbecue meals that are present in the Jollibee outlets in the Philippines).

this is my favorite all time restaurant ever because of the view (the front view!) pun intended! I love hooters everywhere and since this is the nearest hooters to my place, I love to hang around here moreso since it is located inside the Tanforan Mall.

Favorite Dish: the nearly world famous chicken wings!

    Hours:

    Mon-Sat 11 am - 12 am

    Sun 11 am - 11 pm

When you feel dizzy from Shoping at the Huge Tanforan Mall and just like to feel a good ole mid sized strip mall shopping frenzy, you can just hop across the street from the Tanforan Mall to the San Bruno Town Center, it is the biggest strip mall in the City of San Bruno. The thing here is that they have your typical strip mall ambiance and retailers that are somewhat cheaper than the Bigger Malls like the nearby Tanforan Mall, retailers like Marshall's, Lowe's Home Garden Center, Best Buy, Bevmo, Burger King, Starbucks and one of the philippine's top export bake shop to the Uniter States, Red Ribbon Bakeshop.

    according to their website:

Enjoy the open air charm and convenience of this popular San Francisco
Bay Area community shopping center. San Bruno Towne Center features your
favorite stores including Lowe's, Best Buy, Lucky, Marshall's and BevMo!

Enjoy easy access to over 40 specialty shops, restaurants, fast food and
services to make your life a little easier – from grocery shopping to
home improvement, hardware and gardening needs, plus fashion, shoes,
    accessories, salons and more!

You'll find a myriad of dining choices too, offering quick service, healthy
    cuisine and family friendly entertainment!

What to buy: lots and lots of items that are way cheaper than in Downtown San Francisco plus lots of off season brands at Marshall's that are less damaged than TJ Maxx or Ross!

    Hours:

    Shopping hours:
    Sun: 11am - 8pm
    Mon-Sat: 9:30am - 9:30pm

What to pay: not a dent on your wallet

The Shops at Tanforan is actually far from the Downtown area of San Francisco and is located in the City of San Bruno in San Mateo County but if you want to shop like what a local bay area native does, without the crowds and this Mall is your best bet. Although I prefer to Shop at the Huge Serramonte Mall in Daly City/Colma border (near the I-280 South freeway entrance), the there is no BART access to the Serramonte Mall but the good news is that here in Tanforan Mall, there is a BART Station just a 5 minute walk from the mall so that you can just hop on the Bart and drop by here to shop. The Tanforan mall was formerly a horse racetrack and became a shopping mall in 1971 and underwent renovation and re opened in 2005. The Huge mall is like a typical Suburban Mall without the crowds and unlike my favorite Union Square and Embarcadero Areas, it is not congested here and the best part is that parking is free.

What to buy: This huge suburban mall has big name retailers like Sears, Target, and JCPenney, as well as a Century Theatres. There are many shops inside like victoria secret, old navy, hollister and more They also have a big food court with my favorite Panda Express, Sorabol and Jollibee as tenants and don't forget the huge Hooters at the Second Floor.

if you want to buy off season designer stuff like shoes or bags or clothes, there is a Marshall's Store at the Strip Mall called San Bruno Town Center located across the street from the Tanforan Mall.

    Hours:

    Mon-Sat 10 am - 9 pm

    Sun 11 am - 7 pm

What to pay: not a dent on your wallet. More discounts if you cross the street and shop at Marshall's at the nearby Strip Mall of San Bruno Town Center.

    Fondest memory: Right.

I did some software development work here, and hardly saw daylight. The usual business trip, work until 9 or 10, and try to find someplace for dinner that's still serving. Then, go to work the next AM, waiting for the project leader, who doesn't roll in until 10 or so, 'Wow, what a party in Sausalito last night, ...'

    Right.
